"Unable to provide basic needs for may family is my greatest challenge currently. I do piece works every day and the little I get from that I use it to buy basic needs for my family. In most cases I fail to buy these basic needs because sometimes I don't find these piece works and sometimes the money I get from these piece works is too little to buy for example enough food for my family."

"I have always wanted to have a source of water nearby for my family. I have been struggling all my life with walking long distances every morning to fetch water for use at home. Now that we are experiencing drought in our area, it is even worse. I walk more than 100 kilometers in such water. If I want to buy water, a twenty-liter jerrican goes for KSH 80, which is very expensive. I have always wanted to have a big water tank to store water and sell to others to earn a living from it."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying twenty pieces of iron sheets at 23000, timber, nails, and the labor costs of KES 8000. This was for the construction of a new house becasue the previous one was a smal hut that was in critical condition and it woud collapse time soon and my worry was no one would host me beasue even my neighbor's houses are temporary small huts. In addition, I bought ten goats at 20000 which I am currently keeping in my compound and they are now the reliable assets that I can proudly mention. To add to that, I bought a new bed and a mattress at KES 11000 to replace the traditional beds that I have been using for all those years which was never comfortable. With the little amount that had remained, I bought foodstuffs and other household items that I was lacking."

"The first goal was to complete my modern bricks house that I had started to build with the money from my first transfer because being a widow and childless, as well as with the advancing age, I wanted to have a better and stronger house that even when I won't be able to actively work still I will be having a place to relax that is very comfortable and nice. However, the new goal that I did not have before receiving this transfer is getting a storage tank which is to help me store water since I have no one to fetch water for me."

"I saved a huge part of the transfer with a Savings Sacco which was KES9000 because the current state of drought is too risky to get livestock and yet I do not want to end up spending the money I intend to get livestock on any other thing. This is because livestock to us is an investment that we can always turn to whenever we are faced with a financial challenge. I also spent KES3000 on school fees for my two children because I want them to get a good education since that will be giving them the ability to get employment which will, in turn, enable them to look after me in the future when I am older and unable to actively look after myself."

"Education for my children was the goal that was waiting for this last transfer. This is because, the first challenge I wanted to address was the house where my children will be studying when they come from school. The other goal was to get some livestock but that is still pending because of the current drought and famine in our area."

"I had these goals all along but I was waiting for this transfer so that I could accomplish them. I wanted to build a bigger and better house for our children and ourselves as well as start a business that will be my source of income for the entire time until when I get another thing to do."

"Receiving this money means self employment for husband. My husband has been unemployed for the last 1 year. He was working as a motorcycle taxi man. The motorcycle was not his, he became jobless when the owner took it back. This was a setback for us. Together with my two children, we were greatly depending on him. I am planning to use 50,000 KES to buy a second hand motorcycle for my husband. This motorcycle will be earning us atleast 3,00 KES per day. This amount of money will be enough to cater for our family needs ( food, medical bills, school fees). We shall also be saving the extra income for future use."
