"I will buy bricks which i will use to build me and my family a new house because this house I'm living in is not in good shape. This money shall also be used towards buying maize and food for my household because food shortages are a big problem. Finally, i will buy a mattress for a better sleeping place."

"I am happy and glad for Give Directly to honouring me like this, i never thought I'd receive such amount of money. I will use this money to buy iron sheets for my house because it leaks during the rainy season. Since the rainy season is approaching, i will also purchase fertiliser to increase my yields."

"Receiving this money will help me ease school fees burden. My first born daughter is in secondary school and her other four siblings are in primary school. I have pending KES 40000 to clear their fee arrears and so this money has come in handy to enable me clear the amount. I will then save the remaining KES 60000, since my second born daughter will be joining high school next year, hence this will be her first year's school fees."

"Receiving this money means buying two acres of land. I have a family of five children. I was born and raised in my grandmother's home. I have lived there all my life until I married my wife. However, due to our african tradition, it is a taboo to be raised and live in your grandmother's home with your wife and children. This forced me to borrow a piece of land from a good friend of mine and he gave me a small piece of land to live there temporarily. I have been living here for the last two years. However, I cannot do anything in this land because I only have access to it but have no control over it. I depend on casual jobs in construction sites to get money for my family. However, these jobs are not reliable and pay very little amount of money. I get at most 3000 KES a month which is not enough to save and meet the basic needs of my family. My ambition has been to own my own piece of land where I can cultivate and get food for my family. Upon receiving the cash transfer, I will buy two acres of land that will cost 60000 KES. I will then use the remaining amount of money to pay school fees for my children."

"The new goal I had for this second transfer was to build another house that was to be used by our children because we were sharing the same house and they are grownups which sharing a house with them is discouraged in our culture. I bought iron sheets and paid people to make concrete blocks for the house. That was the new and main goal I reserved for this second transfer, and I am happy I achieved it."

"Buying a younger cow is the project that took a huge part of the transfer which was KES18000 that we will try to look after carefully despite the drought hoping that it will survive and from it, we will get the cow that can plow because the current state of climate and climate does not allow farming so buying a cow that can plow is waste of money. I spent KES10000 to start a charcoal buying and selling business because I did not manage to get a good education that would enable me to get formal employment, therefore, I resolved to start this business which will be a relief to my wife and myself in the future since it will be a continuous source of income. I am so proud and happy."

"I can say that in my opinion, GiveDirectly is doing everything well and I am so grateful for the assistance it gave to us because it gave me the ability to address the challenges that before, I did not know how I was going to face or what I was going to do bout them. I am so grateful and happy for GiveDirectly."

"Scarcity of food and water is the biggest challenge that I am currently facing. This is due to the devastating drought that we are currently facing in our area. I buy 4 jerricans of 20 liters of water per day that costs me KES 200. This is very expensive for me since I have to buy food daily for my family of 8. We occasionally skip meals or even borrow from other relatives something that ashames me a lot."

"Being a parent of 7 children who are all in primary school, the first thing I did was to settle the school fee issue so that my children can have good time in school learning. In that regard, I bought them some school uniforms for KES 1200.00 and paid the school fees of KES 3500.00. Thereafter, I decided to construct a new house because the old one was collapsing. I bought 22 pieces of iron sheets for KES 20900, poles for KES 9600.00. I reserved the remaining amount for the contractor and also for the family upkeep."
