"I have always wished to be able to own a cow to provide milk for my family.Aside from that,my spouse and I got a very small piece of land from our parents to cultivate. Its produce is hardly enough to feed my family and hence this has made us incur extra costs of purchasing maize and milk.Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy a dairy cow as well as lease another piece of land to cultivate"

"My life has been different, I am now able to plan for my future. Initially, before the transfers, my life was very difficult. I was doing casual works, sometimes getting work was on and off. The little I got was not enough to fend for my family. I was working from hand to mouth and I could hardly save. Now I can provide for my family upkeep and also be able to save money. I have invested in my farm and hopefully, I will get a good yield return. I also bought a motorcycle with the first transfer I got, and this helps to provide my family with daily sustenance. Motorcycles are very common in our place and this is a mode of transport that everyone prefers to ride on. They are convenient and generates a lot of profit, which I will save and be able to buy another one in future."

"My life is different in that I now have money to buy or do whatever I want. Life was hard before I started receiving money from GiveDirectly since I would struggle to get money to buy food or even clothes to wear. Today I can eat as much 'Ugali' as I want and I can buy good clothes to wear. I now have some livestock to keep, before I did not have money to buy them but now am so happy and grateful to GiveDirectly for supporting me and helping me improve my life for the better. This livestock will be used to tilt my land and later I can sell them so as to get money to keep feeding myself and my family."

"My life has been different since I received the transfers from GiveDirectly. Due to the lack of a stable source of income, I used to survive on the casual jobs to make ends meet. Providing food for my family was an uphill task because sometimes they had to sleep hungry. I feel empowered since I have now bought two bulls to plough my farm. Initially, I was using my hands to till and It consumed a lot of time and energy before I prepared my land for farming. I can now expect to have a good yield from my farm and be able to sell the surplus to earn a profit."

"Over the past 5 months, I have been buying 2 cups of milk daily to sustain my family since we do not own a cow of our own. Therefore my first priority is to purchase a dairy cow upon receiving the first transfer -a burden eased and KES 900 saved per month. My husband is going to save the money that could otherwise have gone to this expense for other household needs. This also means my family will have enough milk to consume and surplus for sale. "

"Being a subsistence farmer,I always find myself being the last to tilt my land because I have to first of all look for money then pay for the cultivation from oxen and ox plough owners.By the time I get money either from casual jobs or borrowing, the rains have gone down resulting to low yield hence persistent food insecurity in my household.Receiving money from Givedirectly therefore means,I will be able to buy my own oxen and ox plough which will enhance timely cultivation, upscale my farming and ensure food security as well as generating income because I will cultivate for others at a fee."

"My life is different than it would have been if I would have not received the transfer from GiveDirectly in that I have used the transfer to cement my houses, seek for proper medication for my wife who had been unwell for a while as well as paying school fees for my children in secondary school. I would have not been able to do all these without GiveDirectly's transfers."
