How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has been different, I am now able to plan for my future. Initially, before the transfers, my life was very difficult. I was doing casual works, sometimes getting work was on and off. The little I got was not enough to fend for my family. I was working from hand to mouth and I could hardly save. Now I can provide for my family upkeep and also be able to save money. I have invested in my farm and hopefully, I will get a good yield return. I also bought a motorcycle with the first transfer I got, and this helps to provide my family with daily sustenance. Motorcycles are very common in our place and this is a mode of transport that everyone prefers to ride on. They are convenient and generates a lot of profit, which I will save and be able to buy another one in future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
When I received the first transfer from GiveDirectly. I was very excited, I was not expecting to receive such an amount of money. When I got the message on my phone, I knew that my dreams had come true of having a better future. Personally, Givedirectly has empowered me and I will be forever grateful because I will be able to plan for my future. In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done nothing wrong. I give thanks to GiveDirectly and whoever came with that thought or vision to directly impact the lives of people positively.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spend my second transfer to construct a new house. I used to live in a small house that was too congested together with my children and had no privacy. Thanks to GiveDirectly, I can now afford to sleep well in my two rooms that are spacious. I used the remaining money from the second transfer, to buy two bulls for ploughing my farm and three goats.Initially, I was using my hands to till which was very cumbersome and time-consuming. I will also graze my goats and sell them in future in case of emergencies.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
For more than a year my husband had been hired as a tuk-tuk rider which had been the source of our family upkeep. although he had that job, complains had never ceased since he was never satisfied with the kind of pay he was receiving (one could say it was peanuts). it has been our prayer that we would own our one inn fututre and that future seemed to have come. many thingsssssss have changed in our life but owning a motorcycle is now the biggest difference. you can not miss a coin in our pockest and our children are currently feeding well and all this is because of the productive asset which to our family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
On receiving the money, happiness was all over. I was still sleeping when I heard some voices from my neighbor's house. This made me start wondering what would have made them wake up such early. I then decided to check the phone intending to confirm what time it was but the message icon covering the front part of my Nokia screen welcomed my eyes. To relieve my anxiety, I decided to open the message thinking that it is the normal random Safaricom messages I have been receiving. Fortunately enough it was not. What I saw sent my husband calming down my excitement. He had to take the phone to also read it himself and as advised by GiveDirectly staff during enrollment, he requested me to calm down until we confirmed that every other person had received the same message.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
After several years of working hard on my small piece of land, God finally saw our struggles through GiveDirectly when we received the transfers. I decided to spend all the transfer I received from GD together with the small savings we had in purchasing a motorcycle. This is after various consideration to a final decision. Other options to purchase oxen were there but we saw a need in motorcycle since we could hire the oxen from my neighbors whenever we want to till our piece of land and sometimes even opting to use hand tools though it takes longer time even beyond the planting seasons. At the moment we have already seen the fruits of our wise decision and anything to do with household requirements is well taken care of.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my life will change for the better. This is because I will start a shop business that will be a reliable source of income for my family. It is from this business where I will get profit to pay school fees for my children and also construct my house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I am back home from my work. My wife prepares lunch and we eat together. After eating, I relax. Seeing my family satisfied makes me feel very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of stable source of income. Back in the year 2016, I had a big challenge of sustaining my family needs. Buying a packet of maize flour was two hundred and fifty. Since I had no stable job, it was very stressful in my life.
