Sarah
received a $468 initial payment.
"There is a big difference in my life because I no longer offer casual labor because I have my own money. GiveDirectly has empowered me to get farm land that I have cultivated a variety of crops (cassava, ground nuts and maize) and I am hopeful of getting good harvest. Before I got money I had a small piece of land the limited my farming ability."

Kadone
received a $530 initial payment.
"My life is totally different because I now have goats. I had to buy goats because they reproduce twice a year and to add on that they require little attention to keep compared to other domestic animals. Their food is also easily available since they can live in any type of climate. When they multiply, I am planning to sell some in our local markets and apart from that, I will exchange some for a dairy cow so that I can get milk and sell them and this will be my additional income. And according to me, these are the well-thought assets that will help me in the near future."

Anthony
received a $530 initial payment.
"I received a message from GiveDirectly at around 4:57 am and I was so happy about it. I could not sleep from then. I walked to my neighbors place and woke him up to share the good news with him. He had just received the money as well and was calling other neighbors to share the good news with them. I have never felt the kind of happiness that I felt then."

Dickson
received a $48 eighth payment.
"I spent KES 3000 of my recent transfer to pay for my college fees. I enrolled in a college and I pay school fees through the support I get from various people, GiveDirectly being a major help since I get a monthly transfer. I also paid for my sister's school fees who is in high school. Though we have not been able to clear the arrears fully, at least it has reduced to a manageable amount, and my happiness is that we can now proceed with our studies comfortably. I spent the remaining KES 1000 to buy enough foodstuffs and in paying for other households needs and expenses"

James
received a $468 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I have started constructing an iron roofed house for my self that is currently at the window level. This transfer enabled me to purchase the required materials for construction and paying labour. Secondly, I have owned an ox that is going to ease my agriculture. Prior to receiving this transfer, I didn't have enough money to implement my construction plan."

Chelangat
received a $530 initial payment.
"I woke up at 6:00 o clock in the morning on that day. I took my phone to check the time before I could prepare myself to go to school-my work place. I was so happy that I had received a sum of KES 55000 that night. I could not believe my eyes and I had to check again and again.I then informed my husband that I had just received the money and he was equally delighted on learning about the same. We already had plans on how the money was going to be used and we just waited for the excitement to subside before we could embark on actualizing our goals."

Bendera
received a $530 initial payment.
"Owning the goats is the biggest difference in my daily life so far. I am hoping very soon they will multiply because currently, some have started reproducing. My wish is to exchange the offsprings for a dairy cow, this is because the dairy cow is very expensive and I could not afford to purchase it in the first place when the first transfer came since I had some other needs to cater to. I hope that when I buy a dairy cow I will be getting milk from it, for my family consumption and also for sale. Thus, I will get an income that will help me in paying school fees for my children and also cater to some other basic needs for my family."
