"My new goal is to save and use the money to start a business. I am planning to open a boutique because beauty products are on high demand and they are not perishable. I also know where to get the goods and from my research, I will be able to get a good amount of money because I will be buying the products at a relatively low price."

"Currently, my life is different from how it was before Give Directly came into my life in that, I have been able to take care of my needs easily. Recently, I was able to pay rent on time which was unusual. I can also manage to save some amount and set new goals. Before then, I used to do casual jobs in fact multiple of them and still ask for help from relatives in order to pay rent and meet some of my family needs. Since I started my barbershop business, I am able to take care of my needs easily and even save some amount. I am planning to use my savings to start my next project which is poultry keeping."

"My constant worry in life is financial instability. The only source of income in my family is my husband's casual work at a construction site in Mombasa town. The little inconsistent pay he gets is never enough to cover all our needs of food and education. The ever rising cost of living makes it even harder to meet these needs. What hurts me most is having to see my children missing school for lack of fees. "

"I spent part of my transfer to pay rent where I stay with my parents. I decided to reduce the burden from my parents because the situation at home was not good. My mother has been sick hence she has been unable to do the odd jobs and my father is a casual worker and his job has been unreliable. The money came in handy and I am glad that I was able to take care of the situation. I also paid school fees for my child. Part of the money was spent on starting up a business. I sell clothes. Indulging in this business has brought change in my life because I have been able to take care of my needs easily using the profit that I have been getting. Previously, I could do various casual jobs to meet my child's needs. I wasn't even able to save for her emergencies which I have been able to do with the transfer."

"Our main struggle in life is lack of finances to meet our direst need of better housing. My husband makes traditional beds made of wood and rope but the income he gets from this is very minimal. Lately, there has been low demand because of the rise of preference for modern beds which has adversely affected our source of livelihood. Also, the needs in our family far much surpass the income, most of it is directed towards educating our children and food which is our priority leaving us with very little for construction etc. "

"The biggest difference in my life is that I now have a lactating cow that provides me with milk. I previously used to spend so much buying milk for our daily use. My daily expenses have now reduced since the budget on milk as been removed. My children too can now study peacefully in school now that I paid their school fees and they won't be sent home for it. I am also glad that we were able to improve my husband's grain business and hopefully there would be improved proceeds in the near future. We are grateful for Give Directly for this noble course."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is sickness. My husband was bewitched some time back but since then, he has been sickly. Each time he gets an attack, we have to part with some reasonable amount of money and yet there is no source of income. I sell part of the harvested food so as to raise money that can clear off medical bills. It is for this reason that I have some times had food shortage in my household"

"Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house and buy a cow that will reproduce and also provide milk for my family. By so doing, I believe I will be in position to provide for my family in a much more better way."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of oxen that would otherwise support in farming. I have never had the chance to buy because there is no money. I use a hoe each time I have to cultivate and with this, I plant less and harvest less. This is the major cause of food shortage in my household. "

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is managing a family alone as a widow. Since my husband died, I have been battling alone with my children. Feeding, treatment, dressing and all other needs have to be met and yet there is no clear source of income. I depend on agriculture but some seasons don't favour crops so I end up harvesting little yet the need is high. Sometimes I have had to do casual labour just to find for children what to eat."
