Dorothy
received a $530 initial payment.
"When I first heard about the project Give Directly was about to launch in the baraza, I knew it was a lie. I knew they only came to waste our time and give us false hopes. I was surprised when they finally sent the money at around 10 pm. I received the mobile money message indicating they had sent me some money. I can't describe how relieved I was. I had several responsibilities that required my attention urgently. I was so so happy I would meet all these needs without taking loans."

Hesbon
received a $22 fifteenth payment.
"I planted sugarcane some time back with the help of the transfers I have been receiving from Give Directly which I hope will be ready for harvesting in the next few months. My hope is that I will earn a decent amount of money from the sales of the sugarcane which I can then use to pay my wife's dowry so that she can come back. She left me and went back to her native home with an ultimatum that she will only be back when the dowry has been paid. This has not happened yet due to lack of money to fulfil the demand and the reason I am currently a single father. I hope that this will change soon though."

Samuel
received a $22 fifteenth payment.
"Currently, I am quite stressed about ways to raise money to clear fee balances owed by my two children in school that I can barely focus on anything else. I hope that in the next six months, I will have cleared most of the amounts owed so that I can have peace of mind and focus on other development projects."

"I am over 70 years old. Having such advanced age requires care especially food and good housing. My roof has been leaking for a long time and I risk contracting asthma which is caused by cold. Therefore receiving this money means a new and proper housing. I am planning to spend my first transfer in building a new house and warmer beddings. "

"Unreliable source of income is the biggest hardship i currently face. I do casual jobs such as fencing, digging and weeding crops in people's farms, a job that is not reliable yet there is no other income generating activity i depend on. Providing basic needs for my small family daily has been a great challenge to me due to lack of reliable source of income."

Vicoty
received a $530 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I now have more than two sources of income; motorbike and chicken that I rear. Whenever my husband is done with the scratch card distribution, he engages in motorbike taxi to earn some money. I am also able to sell the eggs produce by my chicken at the local market. The chairs that I bought using the transfer has too, given me some peace. I no longer worry whenever I have visitors on where they would sit. I am so happy about the transfers."
