"My expectations in the next six months to build kitchen coop. Currently, the hens sleep in the main house. They are destructive and they mess my children's bedding with their fecal wastes. It has been frustrating but I still had to keep them because they are my source of income."

"I expect to have completed repaying for treatment of my boy. It will give me the joy to see my son healed. I expect to have done away with the stress of having a dependent who would otherwise be an income earner. AS soon as he fully heals, he is going to be helping me with all the household expenditure and even in my old age. I am so happy and hopeful. Thanks to GIveDirectly."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to take care of the education needs of my children and complete the construction of my house. I hope to plaster it and buy better doors. I will also buy new iron sheets and replace the ones that I have because the house leaks. I will be able to have better rest in my home. "

"Receiving this money means I will be able to build a house that my children will sleep in. I have many grand children but accommodation has always been a problem. My current house is to small to accommodate us. It is even worse when I receive visitors. "

"Due to lack of employment, my spouse and i resolved to sell our sheep and goats one year ago then we topped up the money with a loan we had borrowed from the bank in order to initiate an income generating activity. Cereals business is what we decided to engage in though it has many challenges. Most of our clients are relatives, neighbours and friends who have pushed us to great losses with debts which they haven't been able to repay, thus making it difficult to repay our bank loans. This has given us second thoughts on whether to continue with the business or not, thanks to GD since we will use our transfer to relocate our shop to the market in town where selling our products on credit will be minimal."

"Being an housewife, i fully depend on my spouse who is a mechanic to provide all the needs of our family. However, his job has never been reliable. He earns about ksh 200 daily Whenever he manages to secure a job at the end of the day and sometimes he comes back home empty handed. We have had to borrow food stuffs from neighbours which ends up being hard to pay for hence a big shame to us making this the biggest hardship we face."

"Working as an employed motorcycle taxi rider for the last three years has come with its fair share of challenges. For example, the taxi owner expects a mandatory remittance of 300 KES (3usd) per day from me. From the rest of the income I am expected to take care of the taxi's mechanical problems, set aside some amount for petrol as well as my own dues for the day. Over time, there has been an extreme influx of motorcycle taxis in the business thus competition for market(passengers) becomes overly rife. All these challenges coupled up together renders an employee frustrated and at most times go home to their families empty handed. This is the biggest hardship I've faced with my employee status. "

"Receiving this money means to buy household items like tables and chairs where my visitors can sit since I donot have any. Also this money I spend on building iron-roofed house for my family members. This will remove my family members from enslavement of renting houses. I will get peace of mind after building my own home."
