Paschalia
received a $49 tenth payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I am financially stable. I no longer depend on my husband and my mother for me to meet my daily needs. Before the transfers, I did not have any source of income and had to depend on help to meet my daily needs. When I started receiving these transfers, I used it to start a groundnut business which has really brought a lot of difference in my financial life. Instead of me asking for help from my mother as before, I am the one offering the help now. Thanks to GD for the transfers which has changed my story."

Halima
received a $541 initial payment.
"Through this money, I managed to purchase the things that I badly wanted by couldn't afford due to my low-income job. I managed to purchase a cow, which I am currently keeping in my homestead. I know with time, this cow will reproduce and increase in number with time. Through them, I will be able to educate my children. I was also in the process of building a house but I could not finish it due to limited resources. After receiving the money, I bought the remaining materials that were required and finished the construction process. To me accomplishing these goals makes me happy. To me, these are the biggest difference I have achieved so far."

Jumwa
received a $541 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that for the first time in my life, I will be sheltering in my own iron-roofed house, after living in a grass-thatched hut for many years with no hopes of upgrading to a better house. Considering the financial hardships I had undergone, from hand to mouth life, I am now in the process of constructing a new house courtesy of GiveDirectly. I had longed to build but my hopes were slowly fading away since scarce resources could not allow me to realize my goal. I am happy and thankful to GiveDirectly because, for the first time, I will be sheltering in an iron-roofed house."

Regina
received a $39 twelfth payment.
"My new goal is to start a second business. I am a hairdresser by profession. The business has been doing well until lately when I lost customers. I don't have a structure and not everyone was comfortable coming to my house. Through GiveDirectly's money, I can now afford to pay rent and market myself well. I know that when these two businesses are well established, I will be able to get more income to cater to my family needs."

Christine
received a $39 twelfth payment.
"Because I go to college part-time, I have a lot of time on my hands which I plan to utilize by engaging in a small business. I have done business on clothes before and I think I would be much comfortable running it because I know much of its requirements and where to get cheaper stock. I am planning to use some of the savings I have made to set up the business this festive season where people tend to spend more on clothing. This is a way for me to get an extra income so that I can be able to support my parents more and to find something to keep me busy when am not in school."

"For the period that I've been a dairy farmer, market for my products has always been the biggest challenge. A local dairy plant purchases our milk at $0.3 per litre. It is hard to make progress with such less value for my labour and efforts."

Nicholas
received a $39 twelfth payment.
"I have been planning to establish a new business on clothing for some time now, but poor planning has derailed the plan which has not yet materialised. I still depend on casual construction jobs which are mostly unavailable and usually pay very little. This makes it tough for me to pay my bills making it impossible for me to save most of my transfers as I had planned. With this month's transfers, I paid my rent for the month, paid my monthly contributions on our table banking group then spent the rest of the money on foodstuff and other household needs."

Joan
received a $541 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am living a better life than before. This is because my family now has enough food for their consumption. Also, I have been able to reduce my daily expenditure as I no longer buy most of the items. This has enabled me to save some money daily that I would otherwise use in buying these items and also the income from milk sales. Also, when I have a visitor, I can easily make them some tea as I now have enough milk unlike before."
