How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have never failed to pay fees arrears for my child. Before the transfers, my children would be sent home for fees arrears and stay home for even a week or two as I was still looking for the money to pay. Anytime they were sent home, I would feel so bad because I knew it would take me a while to raise the money. But with GD transfers, I have been paying their fees on a monthly basis. This has brought a big difference in my life since they are rarely sent home for fees arrears. GD has made me be a responsible parent.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to start a shoe business. Currently, I do not have a stable income to rely on since I depend on a small income from construction work which does not give much and is very inconsistent. I would love to have a stable income to help me sustain my family needs for the future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on paying school fees arrears for my child. She had been sent home for arrears and I had planned to take a loan in our group savings before I got the transfer. I am glad I did not take the loan. The rest of the transfer I used on buying food for the family. I just decided to top up the stock we had so that the little I get on a daily basis, I can save to help us later when we have a financial crisis.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life without a stable source of income is tough because paying the bills and providing for the family is not easy. I lived quite a stressful life before I started receiving these transfers, always wondering how I would provide for my family and raise enough money to pay the bills on time, especially rent which was usually the biggest challenge. With a consistent amount coming in each month from Give Directly, I am less worried because I am sure my family will not be kicked out of our rental house for delayed rent payment as the transfers take care of that.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
Depending on construction work for income is not easy as one is not assured of a daily income being that the jobs are not consistently available. I would want to have a more stable source of income such as a business that can earn me some little money consistently, which is why I have been planning to set up a business on second-hand clothes. This has not yet materialised because I have not been able to save enough money to start the business. It however still remains to be my bisggest goal as it would be the only way for me to better my life and that of my entire family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have been planning to establish a new business on clothing for some time now, but poor planning has derailed the plan which has not yet materialised. I still depend on casual construction jobs which are mostly unavailable and usually pay very little. This makes it tough for me to pay my bills making it impossible for me to save most of my transfers as I had planned. With this month's transfers, I paid my rent for the month, paid my monthly contributions on our table banking group then spent the rest of the money on foodstuff and other household needs.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I can plan and reach my goal because I am certain of getting my monthly transfer. I have also been able to repay the debts that I owed most of my friends. I feel relieved and even more free with them unlike before where I could only think of avoiding them. I always kept thinking of where to get the money to repay them. I am also focused on my life. I started saving for my future projects which are; starting a business and establishing a home.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to start a business and establish a home. I still stay at my parents home which is very inconveniencing. I am lucky that I was one of the beneficiaries of Give Directly because with their help I am certain of starting a business. I am not planning to take a loan in order to build a house because I might get stuck. I need to open a good business that will help me accomplish both my long term and short term goals.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on repaying a loan that I had. I had taken the money to settle an emergency and the date of payment was overdue. I feel relieved after repaying it because I could feel embarrassed facing my friend who had lent me the money. I also saved part of the money in the merry-go-round that we started recently. I want to start a business of selling shoes and clothes which will enable me to establish my home. I also bought food and used the remaining amount for transport to work. Currently, I do casual jobs like construction work which is unreliable. I am happy that I managed to do all these because I wouldn't have done them with the meager amount of money that I get from casual jobs

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goals now that I have started receiving the money is to start a business of buying and selling shoes. I settled on this since I have some experience doing this work. I will use my income to cater for my needs and to support my family. Owning a business will make me shun doing odd jobs I know do which are tiresome and I earn peanuts at the end of the day which is not even enough to cater for my needs.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is that I have been able to save some money toward the building of my house. This has given me hopes that my dream will soon be accomplished. Having a house back at home will always make me comfortable visiting my parents back in the village as I will be having a place to sleep comfortably at unlike now where I will have to seek accommodation from my neighbors in case I visit.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I want to start building my house back at home and I have been saving towards this. When I received my most recent transfer, I spent part of it as savings toward this because I really want to fulfill this dream. I have been buying my food in small quantities due to lack of enough money to use and it is quite expensive. I used the remaining amount to buy stock of food as it is relatively cheaper compared to buying one item at a time.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I became so happy the moment I started receiving my money since I knew that this money would enable me to accomplish most of the dreams which always seemed impossible.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I would like to construct a house upcountry so that whenever I go visiting with my family, I can always have a place of my own to sleep in. This comes from the fact that its a taboo in my culture for a man my age to sleep in their mother's house when they go home. Secondly , I will invest in a new business of selling second hand clothes so that through this business I will be able to get some extra money that will help me maintain myself. Lastly, I will shift houses to a better one say from ironsheet house to stone made house just to improve my living standards as I will be able to afford the rent comfortably.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is my family because I have the responsibility of providing their daily needs. Not bwing able to satisfying their needs fully means I am failing them and myself big time and it's the greatest fear I battle with daily.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I have loved to be a businessman because one is able to progress faster through business and this is one mode i believe I will be able to save alot and better my own life and those of people in the society too.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
I wake up every morning groom myself up, take breakfast and should I have a job, I rush to work. In the evening after work, I pass by friends for chit chats then go home. I take supper and sleep. In my free time, I love listening to music and spare time to bond with my friends.
