"I have desired to start a business ( retail shop) but due to financial instability, this dream has never come to pass. Receiving this transfer means fulfilling my long-time desire. I am planning to spend 70,000 shillings to start the business at our nearby center. This is going to generate income for my family of 8 members. In a day I can make 1000 shillings as profit. This will be enough to sustain all our basic needs such as food. Approximately, my family spends 400 shillings a day. I will be saving the extra amount for my children's future education. Apart from the business, I am planning to spend the remaining amount to take my husband to a referral hospital for medication. He has been suffering from eczema ( skin disease) for almost 6 years."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by giving us money which was enough to change our lives. One hundred and ten thousand Kenya shilings is enough to make a difference in someone's life.
I believe that there was nothing which wasn't done well in that we never noticed and malpractice in the whole process."

"The second transfers which I received from GiveDirectly, I spent KES 30000 on paying school fees for my children who are in high school. I spent another KES 15000 on buying three sheep for rearing. The rest of the cash, I spent on buying foodstuffs for my family. I bought items like cooking oil, tea leaves, rice and maize."

"I have lived in this house together with my niece for about a year now. I moved from where I was living due to infertile soil and divorce. This money will help us build a comfortable house with my niece and it will also be a motivation for me to marry. The other money will be used to buy beddings and mattress for me and my niece. We also lack good pots and other utensils so this money will help us a lot in that aspect too."

"My greatest desire has been to own a spacious iron-roofed house but this has never been possible to me. This has forced me to live in a grass-thatched house that is leaking whenever it is raining. I plan to spend $350 of the first transfer to construct the house and about $150 will help me to buy a sewing machine in order to start my dressmaking business. On the other hand, I intend to start livestock keeping that will act as my long-term investment project because as of now, I don't have anything to depend on. I, therefore, wish to start with 5 goats and 2 indigenous dairy cows which will cost me $150 and $300 respectively. This will have a positive change on my livelihood and hence, a better life."

"Receiving this money means a new house for my family because I have desired to have a decent one, but due to financial instability, this has never been possible for me. I intend to spend $400 on the first transfer to ensure the house is complete. On the other hand, I also wish to start livestock keeping to have a project that will help my children in the future. I, therefore, intend to buy 10 goats and 1 indigenous dairy cow at $300 and $200 respectively. This will guarantee me a better livelihood since my life will automatically change for the better once I achieve my dream."
