How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now than it would have been if I never received the transfer, my family has a guarantee of taking some meals on daily basis. In addition to that, we are also living in a spacious house not as before. Initially we were staying in a bad state and congested house. I am so grateful that the organization gave me an opportunity to better my life
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Sincerely I hadn’t received such amount at once in my life therefore GiveDirectly gave me the opportunity of handling a huge amount of cash. GiveDirectly does its work well, they gave us some civic education and sensitized us on money security as far as the M-pesa pin numbers were concerned.. So far I don't see anything that is done wrong but instead, I am thankful for the support that improved the lives of the needy
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the second transfer, I cleared school fees for my 5 children. One is in form one, while the other for are in primary school. It has been my wish to take my children to secondary school and this dream is coming to fulfillment since the first born joined form one using the money I received from GiveDirectly. I also did roofing of my house which we had started using the 1st transfer though it wasn’t complete. I also purchased a solar panel at KES 10500 that we are now having light at night not as before. I also did shopping for the children and used the remaining in obtaining foodstuff.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I can still remember just like the other day at exactly 9 AM when I was from the dam then my phone started ringing continuously. Since I couldn't read on my own, I asked my helper who was my spouse to confirm what it could be. Upon cheinng he realizd that it wa an Mpesa mesage from the Segivai Techinology. I felt wow and I wish you could see how I reacted at that particular moment since it felt like a miracle to me. I will forever be thankful to GiveDirectly for this significant help in my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life that I will always be proud to mention is the fact that I now have goats that I am currently rearing in my homestead. Previously I had non of them though my dream was to own even a single bit because of the financial difficulties I could not afford it. I settled for goats because according to my understanding is that, they reproduce twice a year and their offspring normally mature faster. Therefore I am positive very soon they will multiply which I will achieve a lot through them. Also, Since my spouse is the family breadwinner with a low income, the goats will empower us to raise fees for our seven children who will soon transition to secondary schools. Also, I will no longer strain that much in providing for my family's needs like before. Besides should there be an emergency, I will be in a position to sell one or two goats and sort out the matter.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying building materials such as iron sheets, nails, threads, and building poles. I opted to buy all these with an intention of constructing a modern house because the previous one was a tradtionsl hut with a leaky roof. Also, I bought livestock which includes four goats at a total of KES 16000. These will now be the living assets that I will lean on in case of any financial constraints. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuff got the family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have desired to start a business ( retail shop) but due to financial instability, this dream has never come to pass. Receiving this transfer means fulfilling my long-time desire. I am planning to spend 70,000 shillings to start the business at our nearby center. This is going to generate income for my family of 8 members. In a day I can make 1000 shillings as profit. This will be enough to sustain all our basic needs such as food. Approximately, my family spends 400 shillings a day. I will be saving the extra amount for my children's future education. Apart from the business, I am planning to spend the remaining amount to take my husband to a referral hospital for medication. He has been suffering from eczema ( skin disease) for almost 6 years.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is my happiest part of the day. It is at this time when I have time to thank God for giving me another day to rejoice and work hard so that I provide for my family basic needs such as food and my husbands medication.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Poor health to my husband has been the hardest challenge. He has been suffering from eczema ( a skin disease). His health has deteriorated. He has been under drugs for the past 6 years. The drugs are expensive 1 dose goes for 600 shillings, which takes 2 weeks. This has challenged me because I can not save anything I always spend everything on him.
