"In my opinion, GiveDirectlly does well in all the villages in my entire location. It has made a great impact, which is evident since most of us now have different kinds of assets such as livestock and nice houses. Also, we managed to send our children to school who had opted to drop due to the huge fees balances. GiveDirectly has really improved our living standards and therefore I do not see any part GiveDirectly failed us."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have renovated my house to look better. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I do not have a continuous source of income. I also did not had some savings. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to invest on renovating my house. I used to live in a dusty house which I was exposed to dust particles. Due to my old age I was vulnerable to dust. Currently I am so happy because I no longer exposed to this dusty related diseases. GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. I am so happy because I now sleep soundly and feel better than before."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"Lack of a reliable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life. I have all along been a housewife and I depends most on my husband who is doing charcoal work and his monthly income is normally $60. This income is very minimal and it can not fully cater to our very basic needs like food, nice shelter and education for my children."

"The biggest hardship I have faced is losing a child. When I lost one of my sons three years ago, I was almost hopeless as I used to depend on him for money to sustain my life. When he died, my life has been difficult since I have have to work extra hard to put food on the table. This is not always possible due to my old age."

received a $493 second payment.
"When I received my transfer, I spent I bought a water tank with a capacity of 2300 litres at KES 20000. I decided on this so that I can be using it to harvest rain water for domestic use during the dry season. Also, I bought three sets of seats worth KES 17000. I am now glad since my visitors will always have a place to sit in comfortably whenever they visit my house. Using the remaining amount, I bought some decent clothes and food for my family."

"The biggest hardship that I face is lack of a reliable source of income. This is because crops have always been failing because of poor weather conditions in this location, and also due to poor timing as I lack money to buy inputs on time. My small business has also not done well because of lack of finance to buy enough stock for my business."

"I am a parent with 4 children in various level of schooling ranging from college down to primary level. The burden of raising their school fees is so much for unemployed person like myself. I pay Ksh 96000 each year for my two daughters who are in different colleges and another Ksh 40000 for my other daughter in high school. Receiving this money will mean a lot to me because it will help me offset school fee arrears that I have accumulated over these years."
