Margaret
received a $509 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer since my house is now more presentable than before. In addition, cleaning it is now less time consuming and it is dust free most of the time hence our clothes and beddings does not get dusty easily. Also, I received the transfer at a time when life was hard and getting even a single meal a day was a big challenge. Being able to provide my family with two meals without any struggle made my life different."

Esther
received a $492 second payment.
"After receiving the second transfer, I spent 18000KES seeking medication from the hospital. I had been having an allergy problem for quite some time without getting any medication. Receiving the transfers enabled me to visit a specialist who put me on multiple-dosage regimens that have been working well. I used 16000KES from the remaining amount on buying three sheep, and the remaining on clothing and foodstuff for my household."

Caleb
received a $509 initial payment.
"I spent the first 25000KES of my first transfer on buying a heifer. I had been spending a lot buying milk for my household use for a long time, and the thought of buying a cow had been with me as I had been hoping to cut high costs. This money enabled me to obtain a heifer and even though it is not giving us milk yet, has brought us new hope. With part of the remaining amount, I did construct a pit latrine as my household had been using neighbor's which was not convenient especially for the kids. I had been working on a tree nursery also where I had been growing and selling indigenous trees seedlings both of which earned me a lucrative contract with the county government a month ago. I am currently working hard to meet the order target that I should be delivering soon. I decided to hire other three youth paying each supposed to be earning 4000KES at the end of the month. I also managed to buy foodstuff for the household which we are still using at the moment."

Dama
received a $509 second payment.
"I spent part of my second transfer on buying building materials such as twenty-four pieces of iron sheets, several bags of cement, sand, nails, and timber. This was for the completion of the construction of a new permanent house since the previous one was a temporary small hut with grass thatched roof. Also, I cleared school fees for my grandchildren who are in primary school and I am glad they are no longer been sent home regularly as before. With the remaining amount, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

Emily
received a $492 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have paid school fees for my children in university. I depend on small scale farming and also small business to earn an income to meet other basic household needs including paying school fees for my children in various schools. This was so hard because the school fees for the children in university is very expensive. I was so stress up because I didn't want my children to defer their studies. One of my children has graduated and I am so happy because were it not for GiveDirectly it's could not have happened. I am so much grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard and given us hope to work hard."

Joan
received a $492 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a house for my son. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had saving I could have build a house for him. He used to spend night at the neighbor's house. This was so challenging because he could walk during the night after taking supper. Whenever there was rainy he was being exposed to cold. Currently he has a house and he's so happy. He does his assignments without being disturbed. He has privacy and his belongings are safe. I am so grateful and now my mind is settled. I was so stress up before whenever it rains and my son had to walk for that Long. Thanks so much GiveDirectly for this immense support. It has changed our living standard."
