"I spent KES 35000 from my transfer to purchase a second hand motorcycle. I decided on this so that I can always move around easily. Sometimes, I am called for a job at a far place and getting there on time is a challenge and the motorbike will come in handy as I now have one. Also, I spent KES 3000 to pay school fees for my children. Using the remaining amount, I purchased some food and clothes for my family."

"My biggest hardship I have been facing is lack of money. I worked so hard each and everyday in my farm, but what I always got from the harvest sales are peanuts. How I wish, the agricultural inputs were cheap as compared with how agricultural markets are."

"I am really grateful for being considered in this program. This means a lot to me. I have lived for many years wishing to buy iron sheets but I have been been failing because of lack of money. The first thing I will do when I receive my transfer is to buy iron sheets. I will use the remaining part of the money to buy beddings. My children also do have clothes which are worn out and I would like to buy them some new clothes."

"The biggest hardship is lack of money to sustain my family. Sometimes I am unable to meet my family's basic needs like food especially when the farming season betrays us. My children are jobless and depend on me too to sustain their families too. This has made my life miserable to an extent am always on the run."

"Restoring my dignity by constructing a decent house is what receiving this money means to me. Currently, I live in a small grass-thatched house that is leaking during rainy season. At the same time, I fear hosting my visitors because it's not spacious and this has forced me to postponed any appointment. With the cash grant from GiceDirectly, I plan to spend a better portion of the first transfer ($400) to construct a spacious Iron-roofed house for my family. The remaining amount will help me to support my children's education with 100 dollars and also to buy 3 indigenous dairy cows to act as my store of wealth that will aid in catering for our future needs."

"Being a widow with no reliable source of income has been the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life. This has made me appear desperate to my neighbors since I mostly seek help for food from them when my children fail to send me money. I have always felt to be a burden to them but I am now a happy person after knowing that, soon I will have my cows that will be providing me with milk for sale to earn me income."
