Emmanuel
received a $492 second payment.
"The cosmetics business I started small is currently growing adding up to the source of income I had. Initially, I was fully dependent on livestock whose income kept fluctuating especially during the dry seasons. Currently, I can make an appreciable profit that has seen me improve in other sectors. This would not have been possible were it not for the transfer I received from GievDirectly."

"With the ongoing construction I was doing, I was glad to receive the second transfer as this was set to complete the floors and all the interior parts of the new house. I needed enough cement, sand, and also gravel which took around 25000KES on purchase, and 5000KES went to the labor cost. I also spent part of the remaining on improving my livestock farming as I had to harvest and package the Boma Rhodes grass which also needed an experienced labor force. The Rhode grass has been so helpful to my cattle as it had been one of the best standover feeds I have had. I also obtained a Jersey calf to add to the herd and bought foodstuff with the small remaining amount."

"The biggest hardship i have faced in my life is poverty. Most of my life depends on farming but due to soil infertility, inorganic fertilizer is an alternative to enrich soil for increased productivity. Therefore because of poverty i have been failing to buy fertilizer hence getting meagre yield almost every year."

Sidi
received a $492 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly had done sob well not only in my village but also to the entire village. First, the support was in form of money whereby every beneficiary was allowed to choose what to purchase according to the heat desires and needs. To add to that, the enrolment was fair and freely, no house was left out. Therefore I do not see any part GiveDirectly failed us."

Mwenda
received a $509 initial payment.
"The biggest in my life is that I own a pair of oxen that I acquired through the transfers. For so many years, I have been aspiring to own it because of the financial difficulties, I could not afford. Before the coming of GiveDirectly into my life, I used to hire those of my friends which was relatively expensive. Also most of the time, I couldn't afford it and I had no option other than to do the exercise using my own hand which was absolutely tiring. Most of the time, I wasn't able to utilize my whole farm and ended up getting low yields which could not even sustain us for two months. I feel there is great relief now because I will no longer have to hire those friends. Also, I will be in a position to prepare my family on time. Besides, I will hire them for my friends at a fee and generate an income. Therefore I will be able to fend for my family with ease."

"In my opinion, Givedirectly has done well giving it's beneficiaries unlimited cash transfer for them to decide on what to use it on since everyone has different priorities. I do not see anything that they do not do well."

"Iam a casual labourer. Sometimes its even hard to find casual jobs and i have a family to feed. So it has been my wish to buy sheep. One sheep can give birth up to three times in a year. So they easily increase in number and whenever i cant find a job i can sell one to feed my family."
