"GiveDirectly has made an incredible difference in our lives. Furthermore, the enrollment procedures were carried out transparently. We all received the unrestricted cash exactly as promised. Because our area is semi-arid, it is less productive; therefore, we are grateful for the financial assistance. So far, I have not observed any inefficiencies in the organization's operations."

"I had always wanted to open a dry cleaning shop. This is because I saw it as a business that was lacking in our community, and the majority of people traveled to Bomet town in search of the services. As a result, I considered purchasing a dry cleaner worth $350. I had a business plan, but the machine was missing. I used the remaining funds to expand my dairy business. I am a married woman with five children. My husband recently retired, leaving me as the sole breadwinner, relying solely on my business. I am overjoyed and grateful for the impact that GiveDirectly's assistance has had on my life because it has enabled me to unveil my business."

"My ambition for the coming year and beyond would be to start a profitable and sustainable business. The one I currently run is small, and we frequently end up exhausting the capital due to school fee obligations. To make this dream a reality. I intend to borrow money from my village saving sacco and microfinance institutions. I am optimistic that by turning the money around, I will be able to get to where I want to go."

"I would like to start farming, especially cabbage. A lot of the villages consume it and If I would get $30000 from the shop's profit, I can start within three months. The current drought has delayed me and as for now I cannot depend on rain and so I have to save for an irrigation system that would help me."

"I don't have major goals this year and next years to come other than educating my children. I believe they are my investment right now because I believe an educated child is an empowered child. Seeing them excelling and graduating from collage means that they have a bright future ahead of them and they will later come back to change my life and give back to the society."

"I currently do not have any stable job. I take care of my 3 goats and I want them to grow big and then I sell it at a later date so that I can easily pay my children's college. I am really looking forward to getting a big land where I will be able to go and harvest my crops and sell it at affordable price. The drought has really affected us but I believe when it does rain everything will fall into place. I also want to get myself a dairy cow where I will milk it and sell the milk to my village members so that I can make some money."

"Living in poverty stricken area where prolonged droughts are normal has not been easy. Since farming is not an option for us and I don't have any livelihood skills, I am a housewife and my husband is the sole bread winner. I have always desired to bring something to the table and help my husband who is a charcoal burner with the family responsibilities but I have never had financial capability to raise enough capital to start a business. Our family desire to own domestic animals also seemed like a nightmare because we have never owned any domestic animal. When I received my second transfer, I spend $175 to buy five mature goats and $250 to buy a cow. I can not express the joy felt by my family especially my children seeing domestic animals around the compound for the first time! I spend the balance to buy food that lasted us for a while. I am so thankful to GiveDirectly for the financial support and making our long life dream come true."
