received a $421 second payment.
"In the coming year and beyond my focus shall be to improve my dairy keeping work. I plan to do this by not only planting more fodder but also improving the breed of my cows. I right now have one dairy cow that is of a lower breed and a small piece of land where I have planted fodder. In the next one year and beyond, I hope to have one extra cow and to have put more land under fodder and other animal feeds. This will greatly improve the living standards of my family and give me an opportunity to practice other forms of income generating activities. I have just one of my children with her two children who look up to me for daily needs and this will make it easier for me to achieve my goals going into the future."

"Lack of food is the challenge I am currently facing. The community has had no rain for the last five years. Since then I have been struggling with casual jobs earning approximately $30 per month. My family takes one meal per day thus the children's health has gown down."

Kavumbi
received a $421 second payment.
"For many years, I have been living in a small, grass-thatched structure that was not enough to fully accommodate me and my grandchild plus our household commodities. In most cases, some of the household items were remaining outside because of the condition of our shelter. I had to seek shelter from our neighbours whenever I received visitors in my home which is very shameful. I spent the recent transfer to complete the construction of my two-roomed house that I started with my first transfer. I bought building materials like iron sheets and paid the labour charge. After that, I used $100 to support the education of my granddaughter who is in secondary school. She was left under my care after her all parent died 5 years ago. Lastly, I used the remaining amount to acquire enough food for the family because we did not have food in our stores. Earlier, we could sleep without food for 2 days every week."

Karisa
received a $27 fourteenth payment.
"I have been obsessed with what I can do to make life bearable for my family. Since I do not have any other source of income except the current underperforming business, I had set up a goal of spending a portion of my monthly transfers to acquire additional stock. With diversified stock, I shall realize increased sales translating to increased family income. As a result, catering to the family's education and acquiring food will not be as stressful as it had been for me in the past."

Jumwa
received a $421 second payment.
"With 5 children in secondary school providing for their educational needs has been a big challenge for me. I am a widow after my spouse died in 2018. I assumed the responsibility of raising the family alone since then. I had desired to provide a quality education for my children so that they may have a better future to transform our family out of poverty. My efforts were almost in vain since they were always out of school because of huge fee balances. The coming of GiveDirectly in our area was a great boost. I spent $500 of the transfer to pay part of their school fees. Currently, I am happy that two of the kids have completed their secondary education although they still have pending arrears. I also used the remaining amount to purchase new school uniforms for 3 children who were put on worn-out uniforms which were making them uncomfortable in class."

received a $421 second payment.
"In the coming years, I hope to continue supporting the education of my kids through secondary school since they are still depending on me. At the moment, one is in form 2 and the other is in form 4 and about to join college next year. In addition, I intend to boost my goat-rearing by purchasing more goats. This is a future investment that will support the education of my children to the college level. I will be able to sell their offspring to pay school fees for the kids."

"In the village, people do not like walking under the scorching sun. My goal is to open a grocery shop where I will be selling tomatoes, onions, and green leafy vegetables. I plan to save two months of transfer and venture into the business."

Andei
received a $421 second payment.
"I am a widow living with my 3 children. Providing for their educational needs has been a great burden on my shoulders since I am jobless. I depend on charcoal burning an activity that earns me $1 per day on average which is not enough even to feed the family. Most of the time my kids were staying at home because of huge fee arrears something that kept me worried about the future of the kids. I used $300 of the recent transfers to support the education of my 2 children who were in secondary school. Currently, I am happy that one was able to complete his secondary education and is about to join college. In addition, I bought a mattress for $45 for myself. Earlier, I was sleeping on an old, torn mattress that was not comfortable. At the moment, I am happy owning and sleeping on proper modern bedding. The remaining amount assisted me to purchase enough food for the family. It has been a long time since we had enough food harvests from our farm due to changes in the climate pattern."

Priscilla
received a $421 second payment.
"I have been feeling unwell for quite sometime now. This has left me making several visits to hospital in an effort to find a lasting solution to my current situation. In the next year and beyond, I will be focusing on my health first as I make intentional efforts to pay school fees for my children who are still in secondary school. I have three children who are in their secondary school level of education and getting enough money to pay their school fees shall be one of my priorities going forward. I will be relying on small scale farming and livestock keeping to raise such money and I am glad that I would not have other projects that may prevent me from achieving this."
