"I spent $160 of the most recent to purchase one local dairy cow. This is a long-term investment and a steady supply of milk for the family. Additionally, when it reproduces I will be able to sell its offspring to support myself financially. Similarly, I bought two goats for $74. Also, I bought a modern bed and mattress for $103 for myself. Earlier, I was sleeping on a small traditional bed which was not enough for me and my grandchildren. They had to spend their nights on the floor which is very risky since there are red ants. I used the remaining amount to purchase sufficient food since we are experiencing famine in our area coupled with the high cost of living due to climate change."

"I was looking forward to spending this transfers on building a proper home for myself since the one I lived in was almost on the verge of collapsing. Therefore, immediately I got the chance to retrieve the transfers I proceeded to spend over KES 20,000 in buying thirty pieces of iron sheets and timber. Since my kids and I have been sleeping on the cold floor for very long time I proceeded to spend KES 24,000 in buying two beds and two mattresses. Afterwards I decided to use the remaining balance on matters concerned with nourishment since it was a challenge."

"Job instability! Currently, my second-hand clothes business has not thrived well due to the harsh economic strains in our area. This means in a month, I make a maximum profit of $20, an income that can not fully cater to our household's basic needs. To an extent, I feel being a burden to my husband's efforts of saving for the future of our children. This is because I have to depend on him to provide for most of our needs including food, school fees for the children, and other basics. This has threatened our future life stability and I, therefore, consider a financial crisis as what stands out to be my greatest challenge."

"Currently, I want to make sure that the school fees for my children are paid on time. I wouldn't want them to reach the prior point of dropping out of school. Thank God, I'm currently running a business. In order to avoid financial hardship when the students who are currently in primary school transition to secondary school, my goal is to pay off the existing arrears they owe the school. Once I have done this, I will begin saving $10 each month. They can only be certain of a better future through education. Like any other parent, when I see my kids thrive in life, I will be happy and proud."

"We do not have most home furniture, particularly beds and chairs. I could not afford them because my business doesn't generate good profits, but now that I receive the monthly transfers, I want to buy a mattress and chairs this year. We presently sit on a mat because we lack seats. I also have a mat and some old clothes stretched out on my bed, but it is not comfortable, and every morning when I get up, I do experience aches throughout my body. I'm hoping to save enough money this year and upgrade my sleeping arrangements so that I can have good health and restful sleep in the future. Once I have done that, I will start setting aside money to buy the supplies I'll need to upgrade my roof. The current one is worn out and full of holes, making it uncomfortable to sleep in, particularly during the rainy season when we get rained on. Whenever there is a moon at night, the moonlight that illuminates the house prevents us from getting a good night's sleep. I am aware that I cannot accomplish all of these at once, but I will in two years."

"What a life! For a long time, I have lived in a very depressing situation because we are financially unstable at home. My only son is doing casual jobs in Kilifi as well as acting in charge of a certain church. His daily income goes into catering to his family's basic needs since he has 11 household members. This has left me desperate at home and I live in an unworthy house that is open both at the roof and the walls. Living in fear has devoured me and I am always surviving the cold nights. I have constantly felt to have the ability to change this misery but it has always been in vain. I, therefore, consider financial constraints as my biggest challenge."
