"In my opinion, I think GiveDirectly should add some more transfer to what we received because of the rising cost of living. However, we appreciate what we received because it has changed our lives in so many ways."

"Planting season is approaching and I need to be prepared enough. My family has been struggling with food shortages year in and year out. I am happy that I am not struggling anymore to find school fees for my daughter Diana. This gives me humble time to invest my energy and time in crop farming. I am hopeful that this season I will have a bumper harvest."

Vivian
received a $421 second payment.
"I spent $500 on purchasing a piece of land from My neighbor. I lived on a small land and this was limiting the farming activities that I do at home. I had always wished to buy land but I did not have the money. I depend on small-scale farming and a business of selling eggs. This would earn me a small income and I was not in a position to save. I had so many responsibilities including paying school fees for my children in primary. I am so grateful because currently I have a bigger land and I do horticulture farming. I get enough food to feed my family unlike before when I would struggle and even buy from the market. I paid $20 on paying school fees for my two children. Their performance has improved since they were not sent home like before. The remaining amount of money I spent on food and clothes. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards."

Salama
received a $436 second payment.
"Supporting the education of my kids who are yet to complete their studies is the goal that I have. I am illiterate and I intend to provide quality education to my children so that they would change the living condition in the family. In addition, I am planning to boost livestock rearing an activity that I started with the first transfer. This is a long-term investment for my kids' education since I will be selling one or two animals to pay school fees for them in the future."

Kanze
received a $421 second payment.
"A couple of years back, my house collapsed and afterwards I ended up moving in with my extended family so that I wouldn't be homeless. Therefore, when I received this money I was quite excited because I intended to use to and finally build myself of home. After retrieving the money I proceeded to buy about twenty four pieces of iron sheets, timber and a bunch of other building material which cost me over KES 30,000. I also spent KES 4,500 in buying a goat. I decided to use the balance I was left with to focus on nourishment because it was a constant predicament as a consequence of persistent drought."
