"My son's education comes first before anything else. Once I have settled his expenses, I am planning to save some money and buy a water tank. I want to start harvesting rainwater. I currently spend quite a lot of money to buy water since where we fetch is very far. I will be able to save a lot once I buy a water reservoir."

"My expectation in the near future is to invest well and live a more comfortable life. I also want to improve my lifestyle by building a better house and buying a water tank. This will reduce the number of resources that goes into these activities. Generally, want to have an improved life now that I am getting old and Give Directly are also almost finishing their projects in this village."

Mornica
received a $22 seventeenth payment.
"I expect my life to change in the next six-month in that I will have invested the remaining amount of transfers that I normally get from Give Directly. I know this help won't last forever so I better think of ways I will survive and elevate my living standards after Give Directly has finished their program in this village. I am also tired of borrowing and taking items on credit from my neighbors and the local stores."

"The farming investments that I have managed to get using the transfer will be sources of income in the next six months. From the crops that I have planted, I will be harvesting enough for the household's food and more for sale. I will be thriving well in both farming and business."

"I believe that my goat rearing project will do well. Depending on how successful it will be, I will decide whether I will continue to invest in it or not. But I am interested in doing this business at a larger scale because it looks promising. The risks involved are very minimal and preventable. They also come in handy where there is an urgent financial need. This will prevent me from taking loans."

"Dressmaking shop has been my longest desired business that I have always hoped to own once I get adequate capital. Before I was married, I never knew how I can get trained to become a dressmaker but fortunately, after marriage, I got the chance and trained by the local tailors. Despite having the basic skills, I have never been able to acquire the sewing machines due to financial constraints and this has forced me to purely depend on my husband. My plan is to use $240 on purchasing 2 sewing machines and also to use $100 on renting the workroom once I receive the transfers. This will ensure maximum support to my husband since I will be engaged in income-generating activity. The remaining amount will aid in paying school fees for my child and also repairing my house. This will change the status of our living and hence a better-transformed life that I have long wished."

"I am a widow and a sole breadwinner for the family. My activities are to work in construction sites in order to get our daily meals not to mention school fees which is the biggest burden on me. This job is unreliable since working in a day is by chance yet its income is rarely enough to sustain the needs of my family. Receiving this money means starting my longest desired job of selling fried fish and therefore, I will use utmost Ksh8000 as the capital for my job for the start. My second priority is to pay $200 on paying my daughter's school fees which includes some arrears. The remaining transfers will help me to buy goats to serve as a long term investment that will help me to cater my future expenses. This will enable me to take care of my family with minimal challenge thus, a better living."

"Being a housewife where the husband's income goes only on food can be a challenging moment. Since I am a victim of this experience, I have wished to own a business that can earn me money to cater to my personal expenses and also to supplement my husband's earnings. This wish has remained unfulfilled considering that, getting the capital is a problem and therefore, I consider financial constraints being the biggest hardship in my life."

"In the next six months, my expectation is to have purchased a heifer. With the current plans underway, I am much hopeful that everything will go as planned. We have started a savings plan which will enable us to raise some money which together with the contribution we are getting from the merry-go-round we will be able to purchase that heifer."

"I have been a subsistence farmer for a long time but due to old age which is catching up I want to do more of dairy and poultry farming because it is less strenuous. I have a plan of using the transfers from Give Directly to buy one dairy cow.I have two cows so far and adding one will increase milk yield. The cow will cost me approximately Ksh 25,000(250 USD).I will then fence my compound using a chain link so that I can do serious poultry.I want to double the number of chicken from 10 to 20.The poultry work will cost me around Ksh 10,000(100 USD).I have also been building my house and it is halfway done.I will see to it that I complete the remaining bit of it.I will not forget to take a share of the money to church to help God's work. This is a way of giving thanks to the Lord."
