"Receiving this money means to build iron-roofed house and buy apiece of land. Iam settled in a small plot but have no where to cultivate hence I experience some poverty each year. Once I buy land ,I will be farming on it to realise some produce. This produce I will be selling and consuming some hence reduction in household poverty levels."

"The biggest hardship I face is lack of farm land. Iam therefore producing very little from the current land and it does not support my family's requirements. There is shortage of food also at home , hence my children are sickly due to poor feeding."

"My daily life is currently different from how it was before since we are no longer being rained on during the rainy season. This is because I have been able to build a decent and spacious house for my family. This would not have been possible had it not have been for GiveDirectly because the money I usually get from doing some menial jobs was not even enough to buy food and other necessities. I now feel at peace and feel like I am at the same level as other people in our village because of the decent house I now live in. Also, owning goats is a source of financial assurance for me because I can easily sell any in case of a financial crisis."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is taking care of the education needs of my children. My wife tries to brew local alcohol so as to raise some money that can support the household. However, despite the efforts put in, it is common for my children to be sent out of school for not paying fees on time. It is for this reason that we have always got soft loans from some loan schemes just to ensure that children attend school."
