"I no longer feel very comfortable sleeping in my brother's house because I do not have the freedom I need as a teenager, hence the need to construct my own house once I complete high school. This may be tough because I do not have any source of income, but I hope I will have achieved this dream within the next six months with the help of the transfers I receive from Give Directly and through casual jobs."

"Inadequate financial resource to achieve my desire of educating my children and starting a food vending business is my biggest hardship in my life. Being a widow and jobless after the death of my husband in August this year has left me with a huge role, something that is eating up my mind because I am worried that my children might not complete their education."

"Failure to meet my longterm dream of owning livestock due to financial instability has been the biggest hardship in my life. This has forced me to rear my neighbor's livestock in order to sustain my family's needs. This job is tiresome and earns me very little, considering that getting 1.5 dollars per day means spending the own day in the bush herding the livestock."

"My husband is a skilled motorcyclist with over 10 years experience in riding a motorbike to ferry charcoal to Mombasa from the village. The business is very lucrative in that on a good day he manages to earn close to ksh.1500 if he goes for three trips. The problem is that he does not have his own and as such he is forced to rely on being employed by someone who has to put his skill into use. For a very long time , he has wished to buy his own so that he can be independent and start saving the standard ksh.400 that he has to give to his employer everyday regardless of wether he makes an earning or not. However, this wish has always been derailed by lack of finances to buy his own and also go for the driving test to acquire a legal license permitting him to ride freely without having to evade the police from time to time. With this money he will spend ksh.13,000 to acquire his drivers licence and ksh.60,000 to get a second hand motorbike that he has already identified and certified to be in good working condition. With his own income,I am sure that our households finances will greatly improve thus changing our way of living which is currently very pathetic to be a bit comfortable and free from constant financial worries. "I feel the biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own goats which to me are assets of great value. I know they will reproduce, multiply and increase in number. I will be able to sell them in future and educate my children and also to meet other financial needs through these goats. These are a source of finance and saving for the future of my children's education."

"We had acquired a motorcycle on loan from which we were paying in instalments from the income it generates. It was my expectation that we complete paying for this loan so as to have full possession of it. However, the outstanding balance was huge compared to the daily income we were getting from its services that we needed to support our daily household needs and to service the loan. I thank GiveDirectly because the transfer has reduced this loan to a considerable amount. I am happy because clearing the remaining amount won't be a big task for us. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life because I am sure it won't take us long to gain full ownership and getting our own income daily to meet our household needs and educating our children through it."

"I am a business woman who buys and sells milk.Depending on this one business has been a challenge because of varying seasons.I therefore want to open a retail shop when I receive this money.I believe this business will pick because my target customers are the ones that I buy milk from.I will build a structure in my farm since it is strategically located beside the road. This will save me the expense of paying rent. The cost of building and buying stock will cost me Ksh 40,000(400 USD).My husband is also a business man and part of the money will go to his business. He sells firewood to schools.I also want to fence my compound using mesh wire so that I can rear chicken."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months. I plan to invest my savings and increase my income to a point where I can start actualizing my longterm goals. My biggest worry at the moment is to easily pay school fees for my children. My kids are very bright and I would never want to fail them in any way. I thank God I was among the beneficiaries because I have means of starting other income-generating activities and achieve most of these goals."

"I expect to have expanded my work in motorcycle repairing. I will have stocked some spare parts and employed one mechanic to help me run the service. All these changes will happen when I manage to utilize the transfers well. I expect to have increased my customer base and gain more income from the increase in work volumes that I will be handling."

"Receiving this money means that I will have a source of income. This is because I plan to spend my transfers in buying two dairy cows.I got married two years ago and having just started family life,we have not been able to buy one.We have since been buying milk from a neighbour's house especially for our young child.Because the climatic conditions here favour dairy farming,I see this as an investment opportunity that will ensure that at the end of each month my family gets an income through sale of milk whose market is readily available."
