I would not have made it to owning a dairy cow. I would still be suffering having to buy milk at a very high cost. I am happier and my resources that would have gone to buying milk are now going to savings. I have joined a merry go round where I saved Ksh 3000 per month. This is the biggest difference in my life. If I never received these transfers, I would not have been able to save in a merry go round group because the little I would get would all go into providing foodstuffs including milk for the family.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in that they brought a huge impact on our lives that we now have income-generating activities such as dairy farming.

I spent the money I received on buying a dairy cow and a calf. I needed a cow and therefore used almost all the money on this idea. I had lacked milk for the household for a long time. I never owned a cow before. I sell part of the milk to earn an income and use the rest for my household's consumption. I used to buy milk from neighbors which had proofed very expensive. I then used the remaining amount on furniture and food for the household.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. This is an asset that I can always rely on in case of a financial crisis in my family. I am hoping that this cow will be calving soon and I will be able the save the money I would otherwise use in buying milk. Also, I will be selling milk to my neighbors and earn an income. I will be using this money to pay for my children's education. I am grateful to GiveDirecty for enabling me to achieve this as it would not have been possible on my own.

It was a few minutes to 6 am when I received a message notification. I did not bother to read its contents since I thought that it was just a promotional message from Safaricom. After waking up, I decided to read its contents and to my amazement, I realized that GiveDirectly had finally honored their promise. My heart was filled with happiness as I read the message for the second time. I knew that luck had already visited my family.

When I received my first transfer, I bought a dairy worth KES 35000. I settled on this so that it would relieve me of the cost of buying milk daily. This will enable me to at least save some money that I can use in meeting our daily expenses. Also, I bought two trees to use in making timber that I am intending to use in building a decent house for my family. This will enable me to save the time I would otherwise use in looking for clay. I spent the remaining amount on food and household expenses.
