How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before , my husband who is the breadwinner of our family did struggle to put food on the table . As a parent I would be sadden on those days when he came home with no money meaning my children missed meals on such occasions. This is because the causal jobs he does such as transporting goods in the streets of Mombasa on the shoulder was engaging and tiring. Moreso an assurity of getting money on a daily basis depended on chances . With the motorcycle that we currently bought using GiveDirectly's transfers has lead to a big difference in my family's living standards . My husband uses it as bodaboda which he is able to save 200 KES per day to carter for our needs without taking a lot of loans from friends. I am greatful and happy since my children are able to put on decent clothes and have meals that seemed as luxury before. Thank you GiveDirectly soo much .
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly uplifted the living standards of poor households in my community . The money helped a lot of the beneficiaries to acquire whatever they lacked such as building new houses , livestock and household assets . I do not see what GiveDirectly did wrong at its work .
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent a larger portion of my second transfer to buy a motorcycle . This motorcycle my spouse will be earning from it through carrying customers in and out of Mombasa town. The money that is realized from bodaboda ridding has been helpful in the provision of basic needs like food and any other services in our household. The remaining amount I bought a goat in order to add onto my herd that I bought with the first transfer.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I feel the biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own goats which to me are assets of great value. I know they will reproduce, multiply and increase in number. I will be able to sell them in future and educate my children and also to meet other financial needs through these goats. These are a source of finance and saving for the future of my children's education.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the message notification early in that morning as I was attending to my daily activities. As I went through the messages later that day, I came across the only message that I have been anxiously waiting for. It was a Mpesa message indicating that money had been sent to my account. I very well knew it was from GiveDirectly because they had promised to send us that month. I was greatly overjoyed as I thanked this organization for keeping their word and giving us that much without any conditions.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent KES 17000 to purchase six goats to keep and rear in my homestead. I am sure that even after GiveDirectly has wrapped up their activities and moved to other areas, I will have something to depend on. These goats are like assets to me since they will reproduce and increase in number with time. Apart from that, I also spent KES 20000 to purchase pieces of iron sheets, KES 10000 to purchase building poles and timber and nails to renovate my house that was in a bad state. The roof was grass thatched and leaked a lot during rainy seasons. It was also was almost collapsing due to the old building poles that had broken. I could not repair or build another house due to inadequate resources. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for their financial support which has enabled me to fully renovate it. In addition to that, I also purchased a new bed to replace my old traditional bed. I finally spent the remaining amount to cater for my other household needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means am going to get more capital to improve my poultry farming business. At the moment, I rare a few chickens which I sell when they are mature. Given that crop production is no longer viable due to unreliable climatic conditions, the little income I get from poultry cater for the purchase of food only leaving none for other basic necessities like education and health care. Therefore, these transfers will enable me to expand and venture into other alternative sources of income like rearing goats, which does very also. The remaining part of the transfers will help in meeting the educational needs of the children and other necessities of the household. Achieving all these will bring a positive change in the wellbeing of the family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day. Waking up each morning to a healthy family gives me hope for a better tomorrow. My children are my source of happiness and preparing them each day for school is a good feeling. It gives me positive energy to run my daily chores smoothly.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of adequate resources has been the biggest hardship in my life. Back then we depended on subsistence farming and due to the unpredictable weather conditions, it has been hard to produce good yields, and that has led to food insecurity. I resorted to poultry farming as an alternative, but the struggle has been the same since the capital I invested in it was too small and that is directly proportional to the profit I get. I plan to put more focus on it now that capital will no longer be a problem. Besides, I plan to diversify into other alternative sources that will help in generating more income.
