"I was living with my brother before I was enrolled into the program because I was not able to raise enough money to rent my own house through the street cleaning job which was my main source of income then. After I received the transfer, I was able to start a new business on clothes for a stable income and I am glad that it has been doing so well. I am currently comfortably living in my own house with my children whom I am now able to properly provide for. The business I started using the transfers has also changed my life because I no longer have to hustle through casual jobs or sleep on an empty stomach because I must make some profits from the business at the end of the day."

"Receiving this money will enable me to construct a three roomed iron roofed house since the one roomed hut we currently live in with my spouse and three children is smaller than our family size. I also plan to buy a dairy heifer that will be our daily source of income in future whenever we sell milk. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy food and clothing for my children and spouse."

"Poor harvests as a result of unpredictable rainfall patterns in this region is the biggest hardship we face, given that i am now forced to toil hard engaging in menial jobs in order to buy food and to support other family needs. We have big acreages of lands in this area but prolonged droughts and floods have rendered them unproductive"

"My first priority upon receiving this money is building a new iron roofed house since this small hut i live in leaks in water whenever it rains. I also intend to buy a dairy cow that will provide milk for sale hence an assured daily source of income. I will use the remaining part of my transfer to set up poultry keeping project whose proceeds will supplement that of selling milk hence improving my living standards now that i will be able to afford decent meals as well as proper health care aside from other basic needs."

"My life would be different if I had enough piece of land to grow maize for subsistence and even better if our climatic conditions were conducive enough to sustain my farming. All this is wishful thinking because we live in an ASAL area synonymous with rocky terrain which is bad for farming. This has frustrated my efforts to provide food for my family and generate income for other basic needs. This is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life. In my community, going to bed on a full stomach is so underrated! Since we've never grown maize for the past one year, most families rely on black tea and sweet potatoes for food while others sleep hungry. We have been overdoing this and my big worry is that children stand the risk of getting malnourished."
