"Charcoal burning is the only source of income that I have depended on, a job that is very strenuous and energy draining. Imagine after spending a whole month of preparing 5 sacks of charcoal and only to sell them at $5 per sack! It is a very little income that is hardly enough to cater to my family's basic needs and this has forced us to skip meals in some days. Therefore, the lack of a reliable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is the failure to get married. As a single parent, raising and paying school fees for my children has been the toughest challenge because I have no reliable source of income. As a peasant farmer, I could hardly afford food and clothing for my family. However, I greatly thank God since I have managed to educate most if my children."

"Lack of enough money is my biggest hardship. This is because I depend on charcoal burning for a living, a job that earns me 600 shillings a month. I am not so productive because of its cumbersome nature as it has negative impacts on my health. This is the reason why I have not been able to construct a good house when my house collapsed 3 years ago."

"My wife succumbed to breast cancer in 2017 and left our 5 young kids under my care. Life has never been easy balancing parental duties and looking for jobs to sustain my family. This has made it impossible to earn enough money because sometimes I even skip jobs to attend to their affairs. I can therefore say, losing my wife is the biggest hardship that I have never been able to recover from the trauma."

"I believe education is the key to a good life. My ambition is to educate my grandchildren so that I can give them a brighter future. This will save them the agony of ending up as casual labourers like their parents. Receiving this money therefore means, I will purchase a pair of oxen and goats for rearing. This is because goats multiply very fast and they are drought resistant. I will use the oxen to scale up farming and also hire them at a fee. This will make it easy to finance their education. I will also renovate my house which has a leaking roof."

"My life is such a struggle since I do not have a stable source of income. This has resulted to financial instability being my biggest hardship. To cater for my family, I always take loans from my neighbours and once my husband receives his salary, much of it is used to clear the debt and the cycle continues. This has made it difficult to provide quality life and we lack the very basic necessities especially clothing, food and good shelter."

"The biggest hardship I have ever experienced in my life is provision of quality food to my family. I solely depend on subsistence farming of maize and beans in my small arable land. Due to persistent and prolonged drought in this area, growth of these plants have been greatly affected to an extend of sometimes having zero harvest. Due to low income I get from my casual labour, I have over depended on bought foodstuffs which are of similar variety hence not quality."

"The biggest challenge I have faced in life is the failure to attain reasonable and satisfactory marks in secondary school. I joined a local school that lacked vital learning resources, especially books. Besides, I used to be sent home frequently to fetch fees due to financial constraints faced by my family. Accordingly, my dream of becoming a doctor has been shattered by the low marks that could not allow me to proceed with my studies yet I lack school fees for repeating some secondary school classes."

"For a very long time, I have dreamt of owning a well structured house but due to financial crisis I have never be able to. Receiving this transfer will make my dream come true because I will be using 40,000 shillings to build a 3 roomed house, 42000 shillings to purchase cows for ploughing specifically to increase production for subsistence use and 9000 shillings will be used to buy goats which will assist in any financial emergency. The remaining amount will help me in my daily spending like buying of food."
