""Our primary plan for this money is to send our kids to school. My parents did not send me to school. I don't even know how to spell my name. Whenever I see some of my childhood friends who're now educated, I feel ashamed and mocked. I don't wish for my kids to have this experience. So my husband and I have spent all our lives struggling to educate our children. It has however not been easy since our only source of income is subsistence farming. Produce from our farm can barely raise enough money to pay our kids tuation. School is about to open and we don't have a cent for tuation this year. So the money from Givedirectly will be used strictly for tuation"."

"The major challenge that I'm currently facing is I don't have a reliable source of income to meet my basic needs such as food, medication, clothing and decent shelters. I am really struggling. Even though I am a farmer but money I earned from the farm is not enough to maintain me. I will appreciate any help to improve living conditions."

"The hardships I am facing now is the lack of Money. Since my wife died I have not been able to take care of my children for the past ten (10) years now and build a house of my own. I feel uncomfortable with the kind of life I'm living. My late wife and I build a house when she was alive but the house broke down and I decided to move in my family house. Since I moved in my family house I have not had peace. Any woman I decide to marry leave me because of my family behaviour towards them and because of what my family are doing, I haven't settled down with any woman yet. I will really be grateful if I receive any help to improve the life and livelihoods of my children."

"The biggest hardships I am facing now is money. Since my business collapse in November 2004 due to my sister illness, I haven't had any means of getting money to start a new business. The money I earn from the farm I make is use on food and at times the farm I make I don't realized anything from it. Because of that I can't even afford food for myself and my family."

"If I receive this money, I will use some to start a business and use the balance to pay my son school fees which will bring me joy. The reason I want to make business with some of the money, I believe it will help improve our living conditions, my son and I. My husband and I had a large business running before and we also build houses to maintain the family but he left me and marry another woman so I left everything with him went away with one of my sons, since then, I have been striving to get things working for us."

"It was a few minutes past 9 am when my mother inlaw called and informed me that she had received her transfer from GiveDirectly and on hearing this, I rushed inside the house to get my phone. Upon powering it on, I was so overjoyed to confirm that I had also received the promised transfer and I immediately reached out to my spouse and informed him of the good news that I had received. We all celebrated throughout the day with endless touches of laughter. I am grateful to have received the support that brought so much joy and happiness to our lives."

"I was full of stress before receiving the transfer since I have three children in college and one who is in a secondary school. We were supposed to clear their fee arrears for all of them and time was not on our side as the dateline was fast approaching. Selling a dairy cow was out of the question since we have one and my spouse has a loan that he has been servicing. I am grateful to god and GiveDirectly for they saved us from topping up a loan in the bank since the transfer enabled us to clear fee arrears for my children in college. At the moment, I am at peace and happy since my children are doing well in their various institutions of learning."

"I was at home busy chatting with my friends on Facebook when I received a Mpesa message on my phone and I immediately opened it to know who would have surprised me at that time since I was not expecting to receive any money. I was overwhelmed with joy on realizing that it was the promised money from GiveDirectly and I thanked God for the support that I had received. I knew all our plans would be realized now that I had money at hand and I called my spouse to inform him about the good news.
