Before receiving the second transfer, my husband and I had plans of purchasing livestock as a form of long term investment towards meeting emergency needs in future. Once we received the money we bought 3 cows at KES 30000 and used KES 10000 to buy goats for keeping. The remaining amount was used to start a poultry keeping project where we fenced our compound and bought a few poultry. We are now happy and rest assured that our baby will be able to start school without much difficulties when that time comes. The new goal that we have had after receiving the second transfer is to buy a piece of land of approximately one acre to enable us take good care of our livestock and even increase the number. This may take a longer time since we have to accumulate enough money to be able to accomplish this.

In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well in terms of relaying information. A case in point is one of the officers who visited our home. She was so kind and patient and when we could not get each other well due to the language that she spoke and that which I understood, she politely switched to Swahili a language that we both could get each other well. She did this with a lot of patience and humility making sure that I understood everything that she explained. This warmed my heart a lot.

I was at home busy chatting with my friends on Facebook when I received a Mpesa message on my phone and I immediately opened it to know who would have surprised me at that time since I was not expecting to receive any money. I was overwhelmed with joy on realizing that it was the promised money from GiveDirectly and I thanked God for the support that I had received. I knew all our plans would be realized now that I had money at hand and I called my spouse to inform him about the good news. I am happy and grateful for this wonderful gift that brought smiles to our lives.

Before receiving the transfer, I would at times borrow clean water for drinking and cooking from one of my neighbors who has a water tank. This is because water from the river is sometimes so dirty that one cannot use them to cook due to fear of contracting some water-borne diseases. With the transfer from GiveDirectly, I was able to buy a water tank with a storage capacity of 3000 liters and I am happy that I will no longer be borrowing water anymore. With this, we do not have to worry about contracting some diseases and we can only pray to God to bestow us with good health and I am happy about this.

On receiving my transfer, I spent KES 15000 to buy a solar panel for lighting purposes since the one we had was not functioning anymore, spent KES 16000 to purchase a water tank with a storage capacity of 3000 liters, and used KES 6000 to buy two sacks of maize for our consumption. I will be using this tank to harvest rainwater for drinking and cooking purposes since I have sometimes been forced to borrow water from one of my neighbors whenever water at the river is dirty and unfit for human use. I still have KES 17000 and I am waiting for my spouse to come back so that we can plan how to spend it. All this would not have been possible had it not have been for the financial aid from GiveDirectly and I am grateful and forever indebted to them for the noble work they do.
