"It was around 8 AM when I was about to take breakfast when I heard a message notification from my cellphone. I was so nervous because it was too early to receive a message besides I was not expecting to hear from anyone. Therefore I asked my grandchild to confirm who it was. He later realized that it was an Mpesa message from GivDirely, I felt so happy because I was positive all my financial problems have come to an end."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying eighteen pieces of iron sheets which cost KES 13500, building poles at KES 5000, nails, timber, and threads at a total of KES 3000 with a labor cost of KES 8000. This was all for the purpose of constructing a new house because the previous one was not in good condition at all. With my five family members, some of us had to seek shelter from friends every evening. Also, I purchased four goats at a total of KES 16000, which now serve as assets that I can also count, whenever an emergency arises. Later on, I cleared the fee arrears of KES 1000 and bought new school uniforms for my two children who are in the nearby primary schools. With the amount of money that had remained, I opted to buy foodstuffs for my family that would at least last for three weeks."

"The biggest hardship i have faced in my life is lack of a good house. My house is grass thatched and it leaks during rainy season. Sometimes I have to stay up all night during rainy season because i can not manage to sleep on a wet floor. I do not have a bed as such i sleep on the floor. I try to do some work to find money so that i can save to buy iron sheets but due to other problems i face i always fail. My house would cost around k100 000 to have iron sheets and i believe i will now be able to achieve what i have always wanted"

"Receiving this money is a blessing to me and my family because I believe my life will now change to the better. I have been living in this house for over 2 years and I struggle during rainy season because it leaks. I plan to use the money to buy iron sheets to improve my grass thatched roof. I know if i have an iron sheet roofed house i will be sleeping peaceful during rainy season without worrying about water leakage. This money can help me buy enough iron sheets for the house and also use the other money to buy food. I would like to add some bags of maize so that i have adequate food to last me for a couple of months coming ahead"

"Givedirectly provides a huge some of money in which we are given a choice on how to spend it For example, with my money I planned to use it in renovating my old house so that it can be in better shape...This is contrary to what other organisations do in the village as others just give us a small amount of money and then we are told on how to use it. Also, Givedirectly gave me a phone and a simcard which on my own, I could have not managed to buy it.. Furthermore, my living style has now changed..This is because I will be able to have better house meaning that I, together with my family will not be around in search of better shelter.."
