"I am a widower with a family of two children. My wife passed on last month. She has been sick close to two years and she was complaining about pains in her stomach. Due to lack of money, she did not manage to seek medical attention on time. Later on, she was diagnosed with ulcers and passed on a month after. It was a painful moment for me and my two young children. From the time she passed on, life has been difficult for me because I need to prepare the two children for school then go to the forest to cut firewood for sale. This responsibility has made it impossible for me to go to towns to look for jobs because they have no one to take care of them. The firewood selling business earns me less that KES 1000 a month. This money is not enough to educate my children and meet their basic needs. My ambition has been to start growing green vegetables which I will sell and earn an income. However, due to lack of enough capital, this has never been possible. Upon receiving the cash transfer, I will use KES 50000 to buy two water tanks that will help in irrigation farming."

"I have a family of six children. Out of the three, two are in secondary school and four are in primary school. Educating these children has been very difficult. My family depends on my spouse who works as a shopkeeper in a another village. He earns KES 6000 monthly stipend. This money is not enough to meet our basic needs. Much of it is used on food and other basic needs. This has made my two children in secondary to be consistently out of school due to fee arrears. My desire is to see my children go through formal education so that they do not struggle getting jobs like their mother in future. However, due to lack of enough money, this has remained a wish. Upon receiving the cash transfers, I will be able to clear the fee balances and pay for their subsequent academic years."

"Receiving this money depicts raising a healthy family. We have been buying milk for domestic use because we don't own a cow. We spend KES 50 a day on milk alone which is not enough for my two school-going children to drink and to make tea. I feel my children are lacking essential nutrients found in milk. I, therefore, intend to spend approximately KES 30,000 of the transfer to acquire one dairy cow. Fulfilling this ambition will bring a feeling of satisfaction in my life because the family will get enough milk to consume and lead a healthy life."

"During our time girls were not allowed to go to school, the community used to see us as a source of wealth and this made my dad give me away for married at an early age. Not being able to even step on a school gate me want to make sure that my children do not face the same fate. Currently, I owe the school where my children study KES 2600 that I need to pay but lack of money has not made it possible. As a housewife, my wish has always been to have a business that generates a good income so I can be able to pay my children's school fees with ease but unfortunately, lack of capital has made me not realize my dream. These transfers will therefore help me to achieve the above by using KES 2600 to clear the school fees arrears, buy two beds with two mattresses at KES 20,000 because I have been sleeping on the floor together with my children for the past 10 years, use KES 20,000 to start a business of selling sardines in the village and save the rest of the money for my son who is joining secondary school soon. Receiving this money means a good education for my children and also a good sleep on my new bed and mattress."
