"Receiving this money means ownership of assets to me.I am a father of 4 children and I separated with my wife 4 years ago.I sold out my livestock both cows and goats to cater for the hospital bill which amounted to KES 240000. After the separation I encountered a bad accident that led to head damage in the year 2020 and I was admitted in the hospital for 2 months. At the moment I have been unable to purchase any livestock because I spend my incomes on monthly check ups and also in payment of school fees. This transfers will therefore enable me to buy two dairy cows each at a cost of KES 35000.With this I will be able to be at bar with my brothers in terms of wealth."

"I want to firstly extend thanks and appreciation to Give Directly for the program. This program has been so helpful to us. In fact, I will called it a Life saving program because some of us never had any hope of achieving good thing in this village because of the hardship. I had lived in this village for more than eighteen years without any improvement in Life. Everything we do here is, from hand to mouth. Meaning, struggling for survival. My family and I were really suffering but when I got enrolled on Give Directly cash transfer program and started receiving cash directly, things has changed for me positively. My family and I are not hardship in getting food or anything for the family. We are now at ease and happily living together. In addition, I have bike on traffic and table market in this village that also us to generate more money. My new goal is to build my own house where me and my family can live happily. I bought house materials from the recent transfer for my building project."

"The transfer has brought a big difference in our lives as a family. This is because we have had some peace of mind having paid the tuition fees for our two children, one who is in college and the other in the university. I have hence had time to focus on my business which has grown since I no longer take out money from it to use in payment of the school fees for our children. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support."

"It was 11:24 pm and most of us in the household had not fallen asleep. We were just relaxing in our bed anxiously waiting for the transfer from GiveDirectly. Some people in the community had received their transfers earlier and hence we had hopes that we were also going to receive it too before the day ends. As a result of this, I kept checking my phone, and the children who were also excited and eagerly waiting for the transfer kept asking me every time they could hear my phone ringing. Finally, at around half past 11 pm, I got the SMS and I immediately informed my family of the good news. They were extremely happy on hearing this and we thanked God and GiveDirectly for the help that they had given us. We went back to our beds happy because we knew our lives were now going to change for the better."

As a result of this, I kept on anxiously checking on my phone for any new message. At around midnight, my phone rang hence notifying me of a new message, I decided to check it and I could not believe my eyes when I read the SMS which was saying that we had received KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. "With my first transfer, I obtained a dairy cow at a cost of Ksh.25,000.For the longest time, my neighbor used to bring his cows to feed on my farm so that he could give me milk for family usage. Acquiring a cow of my own means a lot since I will have adequate milk for consumption. I also purchased sheep at Kshs.7,000 which I keep for both domestic and financial purposes. With Kshs.4,200 I used to till my land and also buy seedlings. I have already planted the seedlings and just waiting for harvest in a few months. I also bought chicken at a cost of Ksh.1,000 which can produce eggs and once sold it will cater for daily house bills. With the remaining amount, I used to buy clothes and food for my household members."
