"The main challenge at the moment is insufficient finances. My husband's retail shop business has not been doing well lately due to the effects of Covid-19. The proceeds from the business were used to pay my school fee and for my two children in primary school. He has been the breadwinner since I have been in school for the last four years and I am yet to secure a job. Getting enough finances to provide a healthy balanced diet for two young children has also been a challenge as we purchase almost all foodstuff including milk and maize flour."

"Unavailability of adequate food is the biggest challenge am currently facing .Unlike previous years when my husband was alive, I have to fully cater for my family needs. This so hard for me because I have to take care of my grandchild as well as do cattle grazing within the compound.I stopped operating the grocery business because there was no one to take care of this child so that her mother would embark to secondary school. The lack of time and suspension of the business has led to a state of food insecurity in my household."

"I will invest in Livestock farming, I had two cows but I had to sell them because of the previous drought. We had no food to feed them and also getting food for our consumption was a challenge. I plan to buy two cows, a cow sells at 20,000 KES. Once I have the pair I will use them to plow my land. I plant maize, cassavas, and different kinds of vegetables. I will sell the produce later and cater to my family's needs."

"The biggest challenge is my right leg injury. Before the injury, I could do my own business to earn a living however the injury has made me depend on my children who do casual jobs. Their earnings are not sufficient to meet all our basic needs since these casual jobs are not consistent and besides they have their families to take care of."

"Receiving this money means access to clean safe water for household use. In our area water source is a challenge especially during low rainfall. We travel over 2 kilometers to get water. This is usually tiresome since the water include livestock. I am lucky that I have a motorcycle which I use to carry it however this means my daily income for the motorcycle taxi job that I normally do will be low and sometimes fueling eats into my profit. So when I get this money I will purchase a 5000-liter water tank."

"I have always desired good education for all my children because I never got the chance to go to school. My last born son is currently in his third year of studies at a local university and paying for his school fees and other levies is an uphill task. My wife does casual jobs in order to support our family of four since I cannot do manual jobs due to old age. The KES 200 that she earns per day caters for food and other emergencies only. We sold all the four cows we had to pay for his school fees. I am excited because Givedirectly will lift this burden from me and my son will complete his education. I plan on clearing school fees in arrears of KES 26,000 and pay KES 30,000 for the next semester. Receiving this money therefore means a bright future for him."
