"I had gone to the hospital to look after my cousin who had given birth through cesarean section, I can vividly recall that it was at 11:33 pm when I heard my phone ringing, while my cousin and I were wondering who might be texting that late night, I then decide to confirm what the message was all about, upon checking I saw a Mpesa motivation showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, I was overwhelmed with happiness in that I called my husband and broke the good news to him, we knew that we will be able to execute the plans that we had before."

"Three years ago I underwent an operation at Tenwek hospital which drained my family financially. My husband had to sell all the livestock to raise money for the same. I thank God that all went well and I came out alive and my desire right now is to recover what my family lost during the time I was sick. If I get lucky to be successfully enrolled, I will spend my transfer to but 2 cows each costing KES 20000. Receiving this money will help me recover the assets that were sold to raise money for my medical bill"

"I dont have a stable means of getting revenue in my house and therefore I luck all the basic needs in my house. We are living in low class life, my house is made of mud walls, earthen floor and I dont have anything luxurious in life. I dont have a radio, tv, nor the house has no solar or electricity. I live from hand to mouth and sometimes i skip meals because I have nothing to cook in the house."

"My last born is in secondary School on his 4th year. My son has experienced difficulties in his education because of school fees. I am a mother of 10 children whom I have raised my family through straneous working in the quarry. I have been working in the quarry for more than 10 years. Quarry job is a man's job but I have managed to struggle, strain for the benefit of my family. My husband was employed as a school watchman getting a salary of KES 5,000 per month which cannot sustain the family and through this, I decided to do the quarry job. Through out my life, I have been dreaming atleast to get a capital to open my own business to relieve myself from the straneous quarry job but invain. Receiving my first transfer will mark the beginning of a positive look of my life. I will clear a balance of school fees for my son (KES 20,000) start a grocery business just here at my compound. I know the balance of the first transfer won't be enough for the business , but this will mark as the start of my adventure towards building a wealthy family and relieved from the quarry work. I will spend the second transfer on increasing the stock in the business and maintain excellent business ethics so that I change my life forever. I believe this is the beginning of my relief from the quarry work which has ruined my body."

"I am a widow and old. I depend on casual Labor at a quarry for a living. The job is energy-draining and I have to compete with young people the age of my grandchildren. To fill one truck you get KES 3000 thousand which is shared among a group of five workers. Due to my age, I have been thinking of leaving this job but when I look at the condition of my house I am forced to continue. When I receive this money it will be a relief to me because I will spend KES 60,000 on renovations, beddings, and furniture as well as paying school fees for my two grandchildren who are in secondary school. The remaining amount will be for savings and other basic needs such as food."

"We own only one cow at the moment which doesn't produce much milk to sustain us. I have been wishing to purchase one more cow mainly for milk production, which will not only feed my family but also give me an income through the sale of milk. I plan to use KES 30,000 for this. Receiving this money, therefore, means my family will be well-fed and I will not strain much financially. The rest I plan to build a house for my young son who graduated to manhood two months ago and as culture dictates, he should have his own separate house."

"The main challenge is a lack of finances. I operate a motorbike business with a hired motorbike as my only source of income. The much I earn (KES 200) a day, all go to purchase food for my family of four. This cycle continues leaving me with no space or extra money to do other developments like building better housing for my family."
