"I spent almost KES 25000 to start up a kiosk shop which I am currently running in my village. The shop is my major source of income since my spouse is jobless for now. It has been so tough raising eight children with no stable income. It is now a relief to us as a family, through the little profits I earn. Later on, I bought new clothes and shoes for my children. To add to that, I bought two goats at KES 4000 which now serve as the living assets that I will rely on. Finally, with the remaining amount of money, I bought foodstuffs for my family."

"The biggest hardship I'm facing now is getting money to build a house in Kanweaken which had been my plan. Even though I make farm as means to sustain my family, the money I earn from the farm proceeds last year, I used some to pay my husband hospital bills and used the balance to pay my children's tuition. The school in this town stop to elementary and my children are in the senior class because of that I register in Kanweaken public school. They get up early in the morning by 4am, walk from this town to Kanweaken everyday to go to school and the distance from this town to Kanweaken is about one hour, thirty minutes. I feel bad times seeing my children going through that kind of stress everyday. I will appreciate any help from GiveDirectly to improve my living condition."

"I spent KES 53000 to buy a half an acre piece of land. Previously, I had a half piece of land and I used to do farming on a quarter piece of acre because it's the same piece of land that I have build on. My desire was buy an acre but I was not in a position to raise enough money because the profit that I earning from my boutique was only enough to cater for my family needs. When I was enrolled into the program, my goal was to buy land and I was able to achieve that as I used two of my transfers to buy land. I'm happy that I will be able to harvest enough food for my family during rainy season."

"The biggest difference I have right now is that I am a business owner. I went to the nearest town, took up a store and a small house that has helped me run a maize selling business for five days where the remaining two days I run back home to see my children."

"I'm so happy that I was enrolled on this program. My plan was to improved my house. That been my plan, but I'm a farmer, my income was very low to accomplish my plan. I will have to farm the whole day just to get money to paid my children school fees and provide food for them. Life has been so hard on me, but with God I'm still strong.I'm also grateful to Givedirectly for their support. When givedirectly came into my village, luckily for me I was successful and started receiving money. My life began to change, we used to eat one time a day, but now we eats twice a day. I have a saving now. Where in, when givedirectly goes I will be able support my children in school. Many thanks to Givedirectly for changing my life condition."

"Firstly I want say thank you to Givedirectly for their support, my new goals is to extend my building, because the house I'm living in right now is our family house. Its been my plan to build my own house in my village. But my income was very low to accomplish that. I'm a farmer. I will go on my farm cut Palm and sale but still the money was not been sufficient to build my house. To even get money to paid my children school fees used to be very difficult for me. But when I started receiving money from givedirectly, my life began to change, and my house project is ongoing right now. I'm so thankful to GiveDirectly for their support."

"I spent most of the recent transfer on building another house. I bought 20 iron sheets at KES 750 per iron sheet. I also bought trees and paid KES 5000 for labor. I had always wanted to build another house because I only had one small grass-thatched house. The space was not enough for us all. I was not able to do so before because I did not have the money. I usually do casual jobs of farming to get money for my family's upkeep, that is, to purchase daily food and milk. I am the sole breadwinner of the family since my husband is physically disabled and hence he cannot work. We are therefore glad because we were able to complete building the house and we now have enough space that fits all of us. Apart from building another house, we also bought two bags of maize at a total cost of KES 6000 and the remaining amount we used in buying clothes for the children. We have hence not lacked food for our consumption and the children are happy because they got new clothes. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support."
