"When I got involved in a motorcycle accident, I was badly injured and am still recovering two years down the line. My family of 9 has been through tough times as we are drained financially. All the money we collect from fundraising goes into paying for medication and transport to hospital which is about 150 kilometers away. I spend KES 5,000 per month in hospital bills and it is not easy. Sometimes, sleepless nights and severe pain is the routine when I fail to take medicine as prescribed because I may skip my clinic checkup other months due to lack of money."

"Last month, one of my sons in-law sent me KES 5000 as a new year gift. I spend half of the money to buy some medicine and the rest did shopping for the new year celebration. This brought a lot of joy in my heart because for once I celebrated new year differently compared to the previous years where I had nothing to eat on such a day. My grand children also came to visit me and having them around made me happy."

received a $471 second payment.
"I spent a total of KSH 20000 in the preparation of completing the construction of the house. I have already bought the raw materials required for the building. I have nails, wood, timber, and iron sheets ready. I am currently waiting for the carpenter who will build the house to finish up his other jobs so that we can start the process of completing the house. At the time I was receiving the transfer I was tending to my younger sister who had been admitted to hospital. Immediately I received the money I spent KSH 3000 in buying some medicine that was required for her to get better. I also paid KSH 3000 to the hospital to clear her bills for her to be cleared. I am happy that she is recovering well and soon she will be back on her feet. I also paid KSH 5000 to my cousin who was seating for KNEC final examinations in college. She did not have the money and neither did her parents and I decide to help her out. I am also happy that she was able to do her exams and she is currently awaiting her results. I used KSH 9000 to buy food and other household items for my family. I decide to buy some 2 bags of maize that will be consumed by the whole family. The maize I bought will feed us for the next two months which is something good as I can focus on other personal projects. I also saved the other amount totaling KSH 15000. I am still thinking of the best project to invest the money in. Once I have come to a conclusion I will use the saved money in the chosen project then."

"I want to spend my transfer on two important things. My wife is very ill. I will use some of my money to pay for her medicine. I will also spend portion of my transfer to reunite my daughter with my family. I have been hiding her from my wife, but when this transfer came, I told her that I had a child out by another lady. She agreed to bring the child home, but the child mother is requesting me to pay all her expansive."

Pauline
received a $27 second payment.
"First thing I thought of after receiving the money is I went ahead and bought new school uniform for my children since the ones they had were old, torn and in taters where it cost me around KES 1,000. As of late I have been experiencing health issues for months now which even made me stop getting involved in my charcoal business, so after I received the money I went ahead to receive medical attention from the nearest private hospital which made me cough up KES 700 just for the medicine. Then since I had a pending balance at the school I tool KES 500 which I split between my children who are three and my grandchild since he was not attending class at the time and the mother had no money so I assisted them. I also bought some food since we had none in the house where I bought three packets of maize flour for KES 300 and two kilograms of sugar for around KES 150. What was remaining I used it to but body lotion and bread which was about KES 100 altogether."

received a $27 second payment.
"My health has not been good for two years now. I am under medication that is why my priority when I got this money was buying medicine. I used KES 500. I then sent KES 500 to my child in secondary school who needed a book. I also bought a bundle of maize flour and other foods at a cost of KES 1500. I saved the remaining KES 500 which I have been using sparingly."

"I was surprised when I got this money as I had not considered that the cash transfer would come in a different name other than Give directly. After some reading from the brochure I was given and saw that it would come under the name Sergovia. I was able to deposit KES. 2000 in my savings account. I want to start a save for a business that will sell veterinary medicine. I also bought a small kid worth Kes.1000. This would not be possible without Give directly."

"My son sent message to me that he has received transfer on my phone. I was very happy because I have suffered a lot in life. My wife is ill and she does not walk. My rice kitcken got burned last year. It discourage me and I didn't make farm this year.I have three children in mission school. I am the same person responsible for their education. When I got my transfer, I paid my children school fees, bought zinc and medicine for my wife. I appreciate GiveDirectly because if it was not this transfer, my children would've dropped from school."
