"Receiving this money means a better house for my family. I would also use the money to pay school fees for my children who are in primary school but will be going to secondary school soon. I can also use the money to buy more food which would improve our health."

"I feel exceptional to be enrolled in this project. I have a child who is in secondary school and needs school fees. So I will use the money to pay his school fees which is about $52. I will also use the money to build a new house because the one I am living in now is thatched with grass and it's made of unbaked bricks. On top of that, I used to be a cotton farmer but I stopped because of financial problems. This money will help me revive it. I will find a plot for rent where I will farm cotton."

"I have desired to invest in livestock because this is the only way I can save my money to earn a profit when I sell them after they multiply. I, therefore, intend to start with 10 goats that will cost me KES 30000 of my first transfer. The remaining amount of my first transfer will cater to food expenses and household needs. With my second transfer, I plan to spend KES 35000 to construct a separate house for my children, and this will restore the respect I have lost for a long time. The balance will help me to pay school fees for my children in school."

"Receiving this money means that my two children who are in secondary schools shall enjoy ample study time, and thus, excel in their studies. As a parent, I usually feel we are letting down our children by failing to raise school fees on time, something that has forced them to miss some crucial class lessons when sent back home to collect arrears. So, I will spend KES 30000 of my transfer on clearing the fee arrears and paying all the other needed amounts (for the remaining one year of study for each of the children). Secondly, we build a better house worth about KES 30000 since our current house has a leaking grass-thatched roof. Further, I will purchase a cow at approximately KES 25000as an investment because we currently own none yet we have sufficient grazing land."

"My children's education has always been my priority as I do not want them to end up depending on any available casual works which will make their families survive from hand to mouth as I do. Because of this, I have always worked hard to ensure that I pay their school fees on time so that they can concentrate on their studies. Before GiveDirectly came for enrollment, I was torn in between taking a loan and selling one of my cows so as to get money to use in paying school fees for my daughter who will be joining university this month. After receiving the transfer, we set aside some amount that will enable us to achieve this and I am glad and hopeful that she will fulfill her dream of becoming a graduate. This has made my life different as I do not have to worry about anything anymore."

"I had been deliberating on how I would get money to use in buying some seats and a wall unit before GiveDirectly came for enrollment since I had just completed building a more decent and spacious house for my family. My plan at first was to spend the transfer to pay school fees for my son who was to join college this month but after they were informed that they would be joining next year, I decided to spend them on two sets of seats and a wall unit so that I would not end up wasting the cash. Currently, I feel more happy and contented as it would have taken me more than 5 years to achieve this had I not received the transfer as I had decided that it would have to wait until my children complete their studies."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to purchase some household items that I did not have before. I got married recently and most of the utensils that I have been using belongs to my mother-in-law as I had not been able to purchase mine. This is because the little amount of money my husband usually earns was not enough to cater for his rent, food, support his siblings to pay their school fees, and still remain with some to use in purchasing these items. I at times felt bad going to take sufurias, plates and cups from my mother-in-law's house whenever I had visitors and I am glad that this is no longer the case as I was able to purchase some using my transfers."

"I spent KES 15000 of my first transfer on clearing school fees for my daughter who was in her final year in high school. She had been at home for about three weeks because of the huge fee balance. In addition to this, my second daughter was joining high school this year thus I bought a new uniform, stationaries and cleared school fees for her. Actually had I not received the transfer, she could still be at home up to date. Apart from school, I also purchased some building poles at KES 4000 and in order to construct a new house. I paid KES 5000 for the labor cost involved. I am planning to finish the project with the second transfer. I also saved 10000 into my Mpesa account to help me in case of an emergency. I spent the remaining amount on purchasing foodstuffs like maize, beans, sugar, and some other household items that I was lacking."

"My husband is a casual labourer in a nearby town and earns 300KES in a day. With 8 mouths to feed, the amount is barely sufficient to cater for all our basic needs. Saving enough money for school fees is always a challenge and in most cases, my children are sent home from school. When we can’t raise money for food, we end up sleeping on an empty stomach. It’s stressful to see your children go without food."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to pay school fees for my child in university. To give him a good life in the future, I desire to educate him to the highest level. He currently, needs about KES 30, 000 in order to be allowed to sit an exam. I will then use the rest of the money to improve my home . I will paint my roof to protect it from rusting. I will also add another room and rebuild a sheep pen. This money will bring a lot of stability to my life."
