How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Dairy farming has been sustaining us for a long period of time and also had been our main source of income for a long period of time. After spending of first and second transfer with the plans that we had especially in livestock, we now have a goal of constructing a livestock husbandry which will help us manage our livestock well. We are currently saving towards achieving the new goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well by giving us freedom to choose on how to spend the cash transfer. We are grateful for this idea that favoured everyone. I do not have any complain since all process were fair.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With Kshs.35,000 I spent in purchasing a chaffcutter machine which I will be using to cut fodder and grass for my livestock. The task of cutting grass had been pressing since it is tedious and time consuming. I am happy that my work has been easier and less tedious. With the remaining part of the transfer, we used in building an animal husbandry which they will be feeding. I am grateful to Givedirectly for making all our plans come through and allowing us to be part of this project.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
We were in our merry-go-round group meeting which is usually done weekly when suddenly, one of my neighbors shouted that she had received her transfer from GiveDirectly. I immediately fished out my phone and after confirming that the money had indeed been sent, I became so happy. Other people in the meeting were equally happy and the meeting came to an abrupt end as everyone started heading straight to their home while shouting praises to GOD and GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I had been deliberating on how I would get money to use in buying some seats and a wall unit before GiveDirectly came for enrollment since I had just completed building a more decent and spacious house for my family. My plan at first was to spend the transfer to pay school fees for my son who was to join college this month but after they were informed that they would be joining next year, I decided to spend them on two sets of seats and a wall unit so that I would not end up wasting the cash. Currently, I feel more happy and contented as it would have taken me more than 5 years to achieve this had I not received the transfer as I had decided that it would have to wait until my children complete their studies.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfer, I spent the all amount to buy two sets of seats and a wall unit. When GiveDirectly came for enrollment, I had completed building a spacious house for my family but we had no seats and cupboard to use. Due to this, I had always been forced to borrow seats from my neighbors whenever I had a visitor and my utensils kept on breaking as I had no secure place to use in storing them.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help me in a big way. I currently have 3 children who are in need of school fees. I will pay 10,000 shillings for my daughter who will be joining secondary school in August, pay 40,000 shillings for my daughter in college and pay 60,000 ksh for my son who will be joining university in September.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the evening because I get to rest knowing my family has had food and a good day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is financial constraints. I did not get to continue with my education after fourth form and so I could not get a good job. My husband's job cannot sustain us and so getting to educate and feed my children is overwhelming.
