How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to purchase a dairy cow which I was unable to buy with both my transfers. I am working on meeting this goal through savings from selling plenty of vegetables that I have on my farm.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly came at a time most households were struggling just to meet basic needs. We are grateful that all households that received the cash transfers transformed completely. Everyone is having better houses, dairy cows, water tanks and many others
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving my second transfer, I focused on the completion of a house I had started with my first transfer. With Kshs.40,000 I used in purchasing materials that we needed and also paid labor. We are happy that soon we are going to move in. With Kshs 10,000,I saved towards buying a dairy cow since we are currently buying milk which is costly. With the remaining amount, I spent in buying household items i.e utensils and skyplast for storing water.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was in a meeting and we had just finished discussing the day's agenda when one of the members claimed that she had received her first transfer from GiveDirectly. Upon reading an SMS that I had received and confirming from my Mpesa account, I became so happy and thanked God for being among those who had qualified. With the money in the account, I knew that we would finally be able to fulfill our goal of building a house on our land.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to purchase some household items that I did not have before. I got married recently and most of the utensils that I have been using belongs to my mother-in-law as I had not been able to purchase mine. This is because the little amount of money my husband usually earns was not enough to cater for his rent, food, support his siblings to pay their school fees, and still remain with some to use in purchasing these items. I at times felt bad going to take sufurias, plates and cups from my mother-in-law's house whenever I had visitors and I am glad that this is no longer the case as I was able to purchase some using my transfers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving my first transfer, I spent KES 30000 to purchase some building materials ie iron sheets, sand, gravel, and stones. We are planning to use them in building a house for my family on a different section of our land because where we currently live is a waterway hence our house usually gets flooded during the rainy seasons. Also, my spouse had recently got a job and was posted to go and work in Homabay county. Because of this, we spent 10000 to use in renting a house and to purchase some items that he needed after relocating. Using the remaining KES 10000, I bought some utensils and food for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean a lot to me. I am currently building a house for my family but I have halted the construction because I do not have money. I will use 800 dollars from the amount to finish the construction and also funish it. I will top up the remaining 300 dollars and use the amount to buy a dairy cow that cost 500 dollars to supplement my income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at night when I get to rest because of the job that I did during the day and being able to meet the needs of my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge I have faced in my life is employment. I am a stay at home mum and my husband is not yet fully employed with the government as a teacher and we rely on the little amount he gets as a teacher at Tengecha boys to feed my family.
