Rose
received a $527 second payment.
"My life is currently different from how it was in that, I was able to build a decent house. Previously, I could get as low as 50 KES from casual jobs such as smearing people's houses which could not be enough to build a house. But I am glad that I was among the beneficiaries of Give Directly and because of this project my life has improved and I was able to do several things that I could not have afforded to do using my meagre earnings. This is evident with the transfer which I channelled towards building a decent house that was a dream come true."

Judy
enrolled.
"I have been aspiring to start poultry farming to sustain my growing family and since I have been unable to raise capital for this, I feel I have failed as a mother and wife to fulfill my duties of taking care of my family. Lack of capital has been my greatest hardship I have faced in life."

Fancy
received a $527 second payment.
"My life is different in that I now own a dairy cow and have new houses. I never thought we could build two houses anytime soon than we have done now. My husband's carpentry business had collapsed following the lack of enough money to keep it running and money to buy raw materials. When we got the transfers, we were able to join a merry go round and through the contributions, my husband has been able to buy a smoothing machine, timber and other carpentry materials that has since helped him revive the business. We now get support from him from his carpentry proceeds and this has raised the standards of living for the family."

Evarline
received a $449 second payment.
"The GiveDirectly cash transfers enabled me to purchase house hold items like bed, mattress, utensils, clothes. I can now proudly change into nice clothes and go visiting my friends. The cash transfers also enabled me to pay off my debts. In addition to these, we purchased a motorcycle that has improved our transportation. At times, the motorcycle is used as a boda-boda which generates additional income.
Before then, I used to travel long distances to access medical care due to lack of transport means. More so, I could not afford better medical services due to lack of money."

Magret
received a $466 initial payment.
"The greatest difference in my life is that, I have built a kitchen for my self. I feel relieved from issues that were bothering me especially debts. I also look forward to plastering my house since materials have been procured. Previously, I was cooking in a grass thatched kitchen with a leaking roof and whenever it rained, water could drip in both food on the cooking stove and that preserved for future consumption."

Sellina
received a $525 second payment.
"My life is different in that I now have a new house that I never thought I will ever be able to build anytime sooner. We have also been able to have a dairy cow for the family. We had sold all the livestock we had for the family just so that we could be able to raise enough money to pay school fees for our children. We had gone to extent of borrowing a neighbors cow that could only get us hardly enough milk for household consumption. This often felt demeaning and I had always desired to have our own dairy cow. I am now a proud parent that I have been able to buy a dairy cow that is going to provide us with enough milk for consumption and the surplus for sale to meet other household needs. The livestock shall also help us meet other unforeseen financial challenges that could come our way unlike the neighbors which would be a criminal offense to sell at the event of any unforeseen financial emergencies."
