What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to build a spacious house for my family. I settled on this since the one we had was small and it could not accommodate us comfortably. On the remaining amount, I bought some decent clothes for everyone in my household and food to last us for some time.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by enrolling everyone in our village thus uplifting everyone's living standards and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to build a house for my family. Due to this, we now live in spacious house that can accommodate us comfortably and we also enjoy our privacy at all times. Also the transfer enabled my spouse to expand his business and due to this, the profits have increased. This has made him to cater for our needs on time hence making us to be happy always.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
Even though I have a two-roomed, iron-roofed house, I also had a small grass thatched hut that I used as a kitchen as well as my children's living room, It is getting worn out and had started cracking along the walls as the roofs being worn out hence letting us be rained on. I used KES30000 to build a more decent house and am now happy that I have my children have a safe room to live in and a good kitchen too. We had relied heavily on my husband business since we had low farm produce letting it collapse. It had been a challenge living without an income since missing daily basic needs could happen in our family. I am so happy I injected the remaining amount of my first transfer on my husband business. I am happy that we currently have more income ton spent on our basic needs and save some for future financial needs.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was awoken by a message notification at around midnight and on checking it, I was amazed to see that I had received money from GiveDIrectly. I immediately shared the news to my husband and he was happy too.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest in my daily life is my husband business that I helped him restart it. We had heavily depended on my husband business since the subsistence farming and scarce casual jobs in our area could not meet our daily family needs. My husband business went down after a while leaving us with no other source of income. We had been forced to forgo household basic needs due to a lack of money to meet them. The biggest difference in my daily life is that currently, we have a better source of income for income that helps us with our daily needs. We cannot forgo our basic needs anymore l, we have something save for other financial needs unlike before.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been aspiring to start poultry farming to sustain my growing family and since I have been unable to raise capital for this, I feel I have failed as a mother and wife to fulfill my duties of taking care of my family. Lack of capital has been my greatest hardship I have faced in life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My day entails working in our 0.7 acre land (weeding, planting, etc) during morning hours and I spend my afternoon fetching firewood and food for supper. Therefore, the happiest part of my day is in the evening since this is the only free time I spend with my family.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have been buying milk for home consumption which is costly for us since my husband's job is unstable. We solely depend on my husband to put food on the table and his job is to buy and sell livestock which is low at the moment. My ambition now is to buy a cow to supplement from what we get from my husband.
