What did you spend your second transfer on?
I own a wholesale shop in our neighboring shopping centers. I was lacking a place where to store my stock and I was forced to make purchases twice or thrice a week and it was costly in terms of transportation. When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to build a spacious store to be using in storing the stock for my shop. I spent the remaining amount to buy a heifer as a way if investing this money since I will be able to earn income through milk sakes when it reproduces.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by giving us unconditional cash transfers and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is is different from how it would have been had I not received my transfer because I have been able to build a store that I am using to store the stock for my shop. Due to this, I do purchases once in a while and this has helped me in reducing the transportation cost. Also, had it not have been for the transfer, I would not have been able to increase the income from my dairy project. The heifer I bought using my transfer has calved hence an increase in my milk production.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of the transfer on saving through purchasing a cow and oxen. I bought this so that in the future they can assist to raise school fees for my children. I usually depend on maize farming to raise school fees and sometimes the yield from this is low due to drought and diseases. Having this will assist me sometimes whenever I am faced with this problem. Also, I used the other part of the transfers to complete payment of the land I had purchased earlier on. I want to clear this because the landowner has been pushing much.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was very early in the morning when I was woken up by message notification. Upon checking the text notification it was transferred from GiveDirectly. I was very happy. I woke up my sons to join me in celebrating this great news.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Completing the payment of a piece of land I had bought earlier on is the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because the landowner has been pushing me so much to complete the payment. I had been prioritizing to pay school fees for my children leaving the issue of land unattended to. It has been giving me a lot of stress but when I called the payment after the transfers, my life has become peaceful once again.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
All my parents and my siblings died 2 years ago hence im the only one surviving amongst the family. This has been a great challenge to me since i go through a lot of struggles providing for my children and there is no one around to support me since i am also a single mother.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy during day time since this is the time i get to meet my neighbours around after stressful and lonely nights. Talking with different people and sharing ideas helps me forget about my worries.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means i will be able to complete paying school fees for my two children in high school who are both home due to fee areas. I will also use part of my transfer to build rental houses in a small piece of land in town which i bought two years ago. The money i earn from renting out the houses will enable me to provide my children with their needs with ease.
