"The house we started constructing is not complete because we ran short of finances. This is the same house we are living in with no windows and a temporal door which is not all that safe. So, when we get this money, we shall embark on fully completing the construction of our house so that we can also sleep comfortably with no worries of unsafety. We shall also attach a kitchen to this house and if there is any balance left, we shall pay school fees for our children."

received a $442 second payment.
"The cash transfers empowered me to complete the house. More so, I hired two pieces of farm land that will increase our food supply.
Before receiving the cash transfers, I had an incomplete house that spent over two years. I was stressed because I did not have money to finish the structure.
I am so glad that GiveDirectly launched in our village."

"My life is different in that we constructed a permanent house and acquired household property like bedding and clothes. We also hired two large fertile pieces of land for farming.
Previously, we were living in a small thatched house which was uncomfortable. I am happy that the cash transfers enabled us acquire assets within a short period of time."

"The biggest hardship I face is low self esteem due to lack of land to cultivate and build my own permanent house. The land I cultivate in now is for my father which I do not have full rights and control over. He can take it back any time when g feels like."

"Receiving this money means building a Permanent house for me and my spouse. The house we are staying in is grass thatched and the cost of grass is high hence we can not afford to renovate it on yearly basis. We shall be able to improve our living conditions with this improved house and save money to meet other household needs."

"My life has improved in that, I boosted the fuel bussiness that is now generating more profits. Previously, the businness wasn't generating enough profits due to the less stock available. Now with the huge profits realised, it has become easy to provide for the family needs as opposed to the past."

Justine
received a $442 second payment.
"My life has greatly changed in that, I bought a motor bike. This motorbike helps me accomplish my daily tasks that are distant with a lot more ease. Forexample moving to weed my crops that are about 15 kilometers away from my home, visiting my in laws and taking my family members to hospital when they are sick. In the past, I relied on my feet for transport and some times borrowing other people's bicycles."

William
received a $442 second payment.
"My life is now different in that, I constructed a permanent house. Although the house is not yet complete, I'm optimistic of surviving the terror of the rains. The thatched house I currently stay in leaks too much to the extent that whenever it rains I have to fold my mattress untill it stops raining. In other wards, I spend sleepless nights most of the time during rainy season which isn't nice at all."
