"My life is now different in that, I sleep in permanent house and succeeded in repossessing my acres of land that were withheld by the creditor. Previously, I strugled renovating the thatched house annually which was very costly as well. But with the permanent house I constructed, that problem has been settled once and for all. In addition, I had one acre of land to cultivate since I gave it to the money lender as collateral for the loan I collected. This forced me to plant only a single type of crop like cassava which was not able to sustain my family."

"I invested my transfers in livestock especially oxen and a full set of ox-plough. This initiative has enabled me cultivate on time and large scale. I do believe that this year, I will have plenty of harvest . Previously, I had to wait for people to finish their ploughing activities then borrow their oxen to plough but this came later on after the rains have passed. When it came to the worst, I could till my fields with a hand hoe which consumed time and drained a lot of my energy. Lastly, I owned a very small piece of land which couldn't accomodate my farming plans. Therefore, these transfers prompted me to hire more land to farm on."

"I am a widow and a mother for two children whom I still provide for their needs yet I have no reliable source of income. My hope has been in charcoal burning business that has supported my children's education but since trees are no longer available for cutting, I am forced to depend on subsistence farming for food and bursary applications. When I receive my transfers from GiveDirectly, I plan to support my daughter's education by paying her college fee since I have much expectations from her when she graduates as a teacher. I also plan to buy an oxen and ox- plough in order to upscale my farming hence changing my life for the better. This is essentially what receiving this money means to me."

"Milk production has become an additional source of income for my family. I will be getting more as the cow will be heading towards another calving. My reliance on carpentry works had been insufficient because at times I could take a long time to complete a project and my family's needs would remain unmet. I am now sure that I will be having a pretty continuous source of income from the cow I bought."

"Now that I have accomplished the projects which were more crucial to our lives, I have plans to go on working hard to see that I change my life completely. In the next six months, I expect to have purchased a heifer as I have planned now. In addition to that, I have another plan which I want to venture in. This is starting of a small business. Our home area is characterized by shrubs and many members in the village are keeping goats. Starting a business to buy and sell them will be the best fit for me since they are always available for sale and have a ready market. These are the changes I expect to make in the next six months among others."
