Bornes
received a $538 initial payment.
"It was around 2 o'clock in the morning when I received two message notifications on my phone. Since I was awake at that time, I decided to check who the sender was, to establish the urgency of the messages which had got in at an expected hour. On realization that I had received money from GiveDirectly, my heart was filled with happiness and I started ululating accompanied with songs of praises. This money gave me hope of giving my children a quality education I really desire for them."

"I expect to have increased the number of chickens in my poultry project. I will be earning more money from the increased production because I will have all the necessary poultry infrastructure. Despite the fact that I will have retired from my teaching job, I will be still doing very well because of the income that I will be making from the investment in chicken."

"My life will have changed to some extent because I will have bought new cooking pots which are quite expensive. For instance, I had already enquired about the price of one of the big cooking pots and I was told it goes for 3000 KES. I know that by the end of the year, I will have bought the items which I really need to have."

Margaret
received a $22 twelfth payment.
"Although I have a plan to construct a chicken coop in our household, I also have another priority project which might come first before the construction. I have a plan to purchase more goats to add up to the ones I already have. This is in line with the upcoming payment of more school fees as my child is approaching to join the secondary level of education. I will, later on, sell them to generate some income which will be useful in school fees payment. This project is destined to be complete in the next six months and after that, I will resume to the construction of a chicken coop to ensure that my chickens find a good place to stay during both day and night."

"I have had problems with people who keep on invading into my privacy by destroying my compound fence every now and then. Recently I fenced the compound afresh but then a few days after that, unknown people came and destroyed it. I now want to buy a new roll of barbed wire which I will use to fence the place afresh."

James
received a $22 twelfth payment.
"I do not expect my life to change so much because I intend to continue saving a large part of my transfer with the intention of paying school fees for my orphaned niece. My desire is for her to get a quality education. I know that if I do not start saving early enough, she might not continue with her education being that I depend on casual jobs which do not pay well."
