"Transforming my livelihood for the better is what receiving this money means to me. Being in a polygamous household where the husband is old and sick has made me to depend on my son whose support is also inconsistent. This has forced me to engage in charcoal burning in order to supplement the little income from my son. The aid from GiveDirectly has brought a huge blessing since I plan to reshape my life by repairing my house which is partly collapsing, buying of livestock that will breed and multiple and also the remaining amount will support my grand children's education. This is essentially what receiving this money means to me."

"My life is different in that, I have been in position to renovate my house and to construct an iron roofed house for my son currently left with fitting doors and windows. In addition, I was able to acquire house hold items (big saucepan, 2 water drums, a matress and beddings). Before receiving this transfer, I didn't have hope of renovating my house and acquire the items I am now having because the little money I got was spent for buying food."

"Depending on my husband as the solely breadwinner for the family makes me feel that, I am failing in terms of offering support in providing for the family. I am just a house wife and the only work I can do is subsistence farming, a venture that is not sustaining due to the droughts we experience in our area. Therefore, I consider lack of a reliable source of income as my biggest hardship."

"My house is so small that I can barely breath once I am inside. It is the same single room that serves as a bedroom, kitchen and living room. I even wish that no one visits me because I have no space to accommodate them. My bed also equates the size of my house and I cannot even turn lest I find myself on the floor. I am not comfortable with such life and I have the desire to construct a bigger house and purchase better beddings. I will also purchase goats that will help me generate income since subsistence farming is not reliable and I do not earn enough from my casual jobs."

"I have been living a single life for a very long time and now I see this as an opportunity for me to get a partner. So, when I get this money, I will use part of it as dowry to acquire myself a spouse who will help me with home related work like laundry, cooking and many more. I will also buy other household items like utensils, beddings, furniture and clothing because the ones I have currently are very old and not in good order."

"Receiving this money means completing constructing my Permanent house that I had started but due to lack of enough resources, I failed to complete it. I currently sleep in a grass thatched house but it is not spacious enough to accommodate visitors."
