"Food security access has been the biggest hardship that my family has struggled with for the last 8 years. This has hugely been contributed by the ever unpredictable rainfall patterns in the area and increasing schooling cost of my 4 children. Because of this, my casual job can hardly sustain the needs with food as suffering the most. "

"For so many years my community has been stricken by low productivity in farms especially maize farming. Drought and soil borne diseases have been established as major causes. When this happen, majority of farmers sleep hungry and children drop out of school to give their parents a hand in doing casual labour for income. "

"My greatest desire has been to open up a SaIon of my own. I undertook a hairdressing course back then and l currently work in a friend's Salon. I thank God it has gained me a vast experience in the field. My plan is now to secure a premise and stock it with the necessary equipment. It will enable me to earn an income for my family while at the same time offer opportunity to other ladies who have interest in hairdressing to equip their skills and earn an income for their families too. This is what receiving this money means to me."

"Receiving this money means am going to get more capital to improve my poultry farming business. At the moment, I rare a few chickens which I sell when they are mature. Given that crop production is no longer viable due to unreliable climatic conditions, the little income I get from poultry cater for the purchase of food only leaving none for other basic necessities like education and health care. Therefore, these transfers will enable me to expand and venture into other alternative sources of income like rearing goats, which does very also. The remaining part of the transfers will help in meeting the educational needs of the children and other necessities of the household. Achieving all these will bring a positive change in the wellbeing of the family."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to cater for my needs such as education for my children with much ease. This I plan to accomplish by renovating my house in Mombasa so I can be able to rent it out and earn income from it. The renovation will include installation of windows, doors and electricity. The rest of the transfers will go to my daughter in secondary school as part of her fees. "

"Our biggest hardship is insufficient funds to meet our needs of education, water and raising capital for business. After completing my secondary education, I could not proceed further due to lack of fees. My husband too ended up being employed as a motorcycle taxi driver after dropping out of school for the same reason. He earns very little, 3 dollars a day, which is barely enough for food and water alone. I also wish to go to college but with his minimal earnings, I do not have much hope. "

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy my own cow.I normally depend on my son who lives next to me.They have one cow and when they milk, they give me a cup of milk which is hardly enough considering that I have children and grandchildren still living with me.We have therefore been forced to take tea without milk most of the time. After receiving this money,I know this will greatly change."
