"My life has really changed as compared to how it was before I started receiving the transfers. This is because I used to rely mainly on my farming activities to earn an income and even sort my children's school fees and this was never enough. I used to strain and on several occassions, I was overwhelmed. But thanks to GD's support I have been able to meet all my household needs."

"Starting a salon business for my daughter has been my biggest desire in life. This is due to the fact that, she has skills for this business but has never secured any place to work to earn her a living. My wish was to offer her a capital to start this work and this will going to be my family's reliable source of income. The remaining amount will help me to buy goats for rearing with hope that, they will multiple and when I sell them, I will get more profit."

"Lack of a sustainable source of income is my biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life, something that has forced me to dwell in an illegal activities like carcoal burning in order to earn me income to cater for my family's basic needs. This job is very risky for me considering that, the government regulations on environmental conservation that forbides carcoal burning in Kenya."

"My desire is to see my granddaughter get an education up-to university level. Her story is quite a sad one as her mother left her while she was still an infant so that she could get married again to a different man. I want to take good care of her so that she never feels her parents' absence. With this money, I will feed her, clothe her, build a bigger house for us to comfortably live in and buy indigenous goats as future financial security for her needs such as education. "

"My biggest hurdle has been shortage of finances to support my children's education. One of the adverse cases was my second born daughter Hadija who completed primary but could not transition to secondary school for lack of fees. She later got pregnant and now has two children aged 4 and 2. Luckily, she got an opportunity to join secondary school last year but after one year we yet again were unable to pay for her fees. She is now in a hopeless state wondering if her thirst for education will ever be quenched. "

"I am a small business woman selling maize in a nearby town during its market days every Monday. This is my only source of income that provides for our household needs and my children's education. At the moment one of them is in secondary school while two more are in primary. The latter two would soon transition to secondary and will demand more money for their education. There is hardly enough profits to make from my small business. My greatest fear is to be overwhelmed by their education costs from which I may have to sell my assets to facilitate. This is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life. "

"The biggest hardship I've faced in life is a lack of adequate income to sustain the needs of the family. Currently, I do not have any sustainable source of income myself and I solely rely on my spouse who is a chef in one of the local bars in Bamba center. And given the nature of his work and the customer base in there, his income is paltry. Sometimes, I engage in odd jobs to help with other pressing needs of the family. Receiving this money will help us to at least start our own income-generating activities. My husband being a chef will use his vast skills to open up and run a small hotel in Bamba. This will see us earn a daily income that can comfortably educate and feed the family."
