Anne
received a $22 eighteenth payment.
"I intend to start a small business to help improve my income. With the business up and running, I will be able to comfortably meet my family's needs. Honestly speaking, my spouse is the primary earner and it hurt when I see him strain to provide because one source of income has never been enough."

"My life is now different in that, I bought livestock. This gives me hope about my future because financially secured. I can sell them to raise income for meeting my future family needs. Previously, I couldn't afford livestock because I had other pressing family needs like fees, medical among others which couldn't allow me to accumulate the little income i earned for buying livestock."

Joyce
received a $451 second payment.
"My life is much relaxed because I acquired an ox for farming. More so, I was able to hire a farm land and this has enabled us to cultivate numerous food crops. In the past, I had only two plots of land that could not sustain the family food supply. I am very grateful that GiveDirectly came to our aid."

Mikali
received a $451 second payment.
"Before GD transfers, I did not have enough land to cultivate on since most of the land was mortgaged and this left me with nowhere to farm. I used to hire people's gardens which wasn't enough and above all it was very expensive. Secondly I did not have hope of curing Hepatitis B and Brucellosis which had detoralated my health because I didn't have money for diagnosis and treatment .
My life is different now because, I managed to clear my mortgages and claimed ownership of my land which I currently farm on therefore I have hope of enough food this year to cater for my family. Secondly, I was able to seek medical attention for the above mentioned diseases which has improved my health conditions giving me a second chance to live."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of land for cultivation.
I have only one garden which is too small to support my cultivation need.
I lack food in my household most of the time so this forces me to go and do casual labour so as to find what to eat."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of money.
I do not have any income generating activity from which to raise money and yet there is need.
Paying my children's school fees is a big charllage to me.
I am a peasant who fully depends on agriculture so whatever I am able to harvest is what I devide so as to take care of all the aspects of the family.
I sell part to raise money so that I am able to pay school fees and solve other household needs.
This is the major cause of food shortage in my home. "

"First and fore most my life has tremendously improved from the time I received the cash transfers. I look much healthier because I feed well. The family also sleeps in a nice comfortable permanent house. Previously, we were living under thatched houses that were hard to maintain annually. Life is so far very comfortable and peaceful ever since the GiveDirectly launched in our community."
