"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I no longer worry much about what to eat because, with the transfers, I bought a bag of maize which will last me until when the second transfers will be sent. By that time, our Mpesa business will have picked so well as so we will start generating some income. I am also happy because I know that I will no longer buy milk for consumption and so the money I would have spent will be used for other purposes"

"I majorly rely on farming as the main source of income but since I have a small piece of land, I haven't been able to get good farm produce. I, therefore, have the plans to use the coming transfer to rent an acre of the farm where I'll be farming. With this, I'll be assured of improved produce thus improved income."

"Investing in education has been my biggest wish but because of financial constraints, this desire has never come up. The arrival of GiveDirectly is a big boost to me since i plan to use half of the transfers to pay school fee for my co wife's children. The remaining amount will help me to buy goats that will act as my long term investment. This will help to cater for the education expenses whenever I sale them in future and therefore, this is basically what receiving this money means to me. "

"Having six children and being a single parent after separating with my husband when with my first born, ten years ago has been a big challenge in my life. This has forced me to engage in male dominated jobs like charcoal burning in order to provide for my family. This job is not reliable and considering it being labour intensive, most of the time, my children are sent out of school due to lack of fee. When I receive my transfers, I plan to invest in livestock rearing especially goats that I can sale whenever a problem arise. I will also construct a spacious house for myself because the one I currently live in is small and cannot accommodate us. Therefore, this is what receiving this money means to me."

"Struggling in paying school fees for my children has been the biggest hardship i have faced. I have one child studying in the university, one in secondary school and two in primary school. Sometimes i am forced to seek for loans from the bank which is more pressuring in terms of payment, something that has forced me to sell my piece of land as well as my livestock. This is the biggest challenge i face"

"I mainly want to start up a business to help in the generation of income for the family. In the next six months, I expect to have saved and set up the business which will be up and running. We depend mostly on doing very tedious casual work to earn money for our daily provisions. I wish to change this by having a way of generating income while doing less work."

"Receiving this money means building another bigger house for my household. I share the one that I have with children and this is inconviniencing. I also hope to buy a motorcycle which can ease movement for my household. My husband will be offering boda-boda services so as to raise more money for the household. The money generated can support me in taking care of the education needs of my children. "
